Courses / Channahon No sod #11
« on: September 01, 2010, 06:26:17 PM »
As much as I'd like to see sod on #11, I'm going to pass & seed it. I'm running at about 75 maybe 80%. There are other things other than disc golf I'm tied up with. I'm not getting support from the park, & I wanted them to pick up the sod.
It's going to cost somewhere in the $450.00 range without delivery. I'm getting three loads of dirt, one for long 14's tee, the other two for #14. With other things going on I don't have any reserve. I can't open the can of Whoop Ass! If I can't soon, I'm going to eat the whole damn can!

Thanks for the volunteers,

Joe Witzl
Nate Winterstein

Courses / Channahon #19 (Repeat)
« on: August 27, 2010, 02:39:50 AM »
I saw some familiar disc golf face throwing to #19. They said they knew about the no throwing to the practise basket but were getting ready to throw anyway. They also commented no one would notice. People do notice!
The park people said it wasn't their choice but they would pull the basket it it continued. I think a car was hit & they got a complaint.
Look, many people use the park for different things, & that park of the park is not a fairway. We have our area to throw discs.
I ask if you see someone throwing there, ask them not to. It doesn't help our disc golf cause. Overall, I think we're doing good, I just don't want to test the power of the park.
Thanks!

Courses / A Few Good Men
« on: August 23, 2010, 06:14:35 PM »
I'm looking for a few good men to lay sod, the week September 5. This is #11 at Channahon.
It will be about 200 pieces. It will be set up ready to go. I think it will be about 1 1/2 hours, maybe an hour depending on the help.
It's most likely we'll DI it during the week. If you can't be there yourself, find someone you can pay & send them. I will, but I'm not lookinf forward to carry all that sod by myself.
By the way Jason Poole can the spell check be upgraded? It didn't correct lookinf. Looking is what it should be.

Shoot The Breeze / Jonie B for Bad?
« on: August 20, 2010, 03:58:32 AM »
I can't believe I 'm waking up thinking about this loser. I have a personal thing about not returning phone calls especially in this case. I did get one returned & a voice mail was left. I returned that call many times with no answer back.
You have two things I find contemptable Jon, stealing, & lying!
Dean was right. That's too bad Jon. I want my phone back, someone with quality may find it useful. You can give it to Patrick.

Shoot The Breeze / Ice Bowl 2011
« on: August 15, 2010, 04:26:09 PM »
I realize this is August & it's some time ahead to be thinking about an Ice Bowl.  I also want to mention I haven't discussed this with the  J-Town board. I'm assuming we will be doing it again although it's not formal, so this is coming from me not the J-Town Club.
We did extremely well for our first year. That came from little planning & kind of flying by the seat of our pants. Randy Moore & Thor helped me get started with a presentation which help me come up with my own style.
This thought came from what Fox Valley is doing & they're starting their promotion now. My thinking is they're filling a swimming pool with a shot glass compared to what J-Town can raise for Morning Star Mission. I might add they have quite the program in how they screen people & who they help.
I just want to plant the seed.
The last few Sundays have been chill day for me but my mind is still working.
The next big deal for me is the Channahon Classic & things aren't going well to my plans, I'm having equip. problems.
I'm proud to be a part of J-Town & I want to point out, Jason Poole was the fulcrum. Did I get that right Jason?
I've said this before & maybe a hundred times more, I'm proud & thrilled to be a part of such a great group of people!!!
You Go J-Town!!!

Shoot The Breeze / Jonie B. Good
« on: August 08, 2010, 09:28:42 PM »
I  deleted the post looking for Jon's #, I have it now. I want to point out people in desperate situations do desperate things.  He wants to make right his mistakes & I think he will. I have some work his willing to do, with that he wants to make right with the disc golf comunity.
I bought some of the other things that he was accused of that may be false. I'm hearing people want to hang him without a trial.
Let's try to help him not hang him. If you don't agree let me know of the address of the glass house you live in.

Courses / Channahon getting it ready for the Classic
« on: July 31, 2010, 02:06:06 AM »
I have been accused for not asking for help. That's only partially true. I want good help. Many have helped, things like the concrete tees, adjusting hole #2, raising #12, laying the sod on #4 are a few  things that come to mind. Part of my bond with our disc golf community is the people who have stepped & helped as they saw the need. It's been over a decade at Channahon & many have helped, so I can't take all the credit. Thanks for chipping in.
I'm going to need help with the sod on #11. Now laying sod is not mentally challenging, the joints need to be tight & green side up is about it. Some will need to carry & some apply. I think four good people will do it. No slackers & I think we can do it in about an hour. I'm looking at week 09/05/10.
Jesse may announce it @ doubles when it comes to crunch time.
We have a great body of people in our disc golf community & I'm proud to be a part of it.

Courses / Channahon Upgrade
« on: July 10, 2010, 06:43:07 AM »
I was with the park superintendent, Pat Fox, Thursday & was asking about some things to upgrade relative to the course.
What I've wanted to do for some time is get #6  like #11, out of the water during wet times of the year. Being #4 & #11 are up it's creating more of a flooding problem. What I'd like to do is dig out a water hazard ( like on #2) in front of the basket. We need a machine to do that & he agreed.
I need to complete #11, hopefully we'll get dirt the week starting the week of 07/11/10. I'd like to start #6 after the Channahon Classic.

Leagues & Tourneys / Chain Reaction Channahon Tournament $25.00
« on: June 19, 2010, 08:13:09 PM »
I want to make note that the Chain Reaction in Channahon is $25.00 for current PDGA members. Most tournaments add $10.00 for non PDGA members.
The way this is presented is to subtract the $10.00. At first glance it appeared to be $35.00 registration for a C tier.

This has been corrected since I started this post. I'm going to leave it posted just to leave it as a heads up. The pro division is $25.00 more.

Shoot The Breeze / Gary Lewis - Joliet's own Hall of Famer!!!
« on: May 29, 2010, 08:22:18 PM »
                                     Gary Lewis!!!
It's Memorial Day weekend.
Memorial Day started just after the Civil War, & called Declaration Day. Civil war General John Logan started it,trying to help bring the Country together.
It became a Federal holiday in 1971. Prior to that it was honored on different days by different states. This day honors the dead who fought for our freedom.
Many, as I do, reflect on passed loved ones or whatever comes to mind to reflect on.
Among others, I'm reflecting on Gary. I know he hasn't passed on.
Our local Disc Golf is huge. Many may not know, but Gary is Mr. Disc Golf in our area. Running tournaments, working on courses, meeting the needs of the local golfers. Meeting with different officials in different community's promoting Disc Golf. He did this year after year. There is much more, the details are over the top.
It's not uncommon when I bump into older players who name drop Gary Lewis. It confirms his impact he's had over the years.
Gary is an icon to Disc Golf with great humility & reserve. My hat's off to you Gary, this Memorial Day weekend.
