J-Town Ice Bowl / Thanks!!!
« on: February 27, 2010, 08:01:35 PM »
With all the work that goes into a tournament it's worthless without players so thanks to you that came out.
Not to mention the people who were in the spotlight in today's tournament there are behind the scenes help I want to make mention of. I left my notes at home & I'm not sure if they were mentioned. Mike Kursell (back brace Mike) custom made each sponsor sign. He verified address & made custom signs for sponsor & did that from the posts that were on line . Only with a few did we have to get together on.
Shawn Harmon is always ready to rock & roll. He helped with the tees, also with splitting the firewood & brought his fire pit, and too with generous donations from him & his family.
Doctor Pepper ( Ryan Barcas) also helped with sponsors & labor. He also helped with splitting the firewood, & frequently asked if I need something. He also brought his firepit.
Dave K. made the player flyer's, & he & Tom M. had also kept the tees clean.
Gary Lewis putting up capital for Ice Bowl merchandise.
Dom got $375.00 in sponsors, Thor pointed him in the right direction.
As was announced, the idea for a local Ice Bowl, came from Thor. He along with Randy Moore tutored me to get sponsors, & I might add it was relatively easy for the cause we had.
Morning Star is a staple in the Joliet area and that made it easier to get sponsors.
Randy is having trouble with his left hand, that's why he hasn't been playing. Give him positive thoughts & prayers.
Thanks you all that played!!!

Can also use a phone to do some of that as well for those that haven't pre-reg'd or if there is someone that isn't playing the tourney, I'd be happy to lend my phone for the first round to double check everyone's status that wasn't verified.
Thanks for your response, but it's under control. We can use that as backup.

Frank we really need to get you spell check.... One more day everyone.. bring two cans of food... if your not current with the PDGA be prepared to get taxed.... you must have proof you are current or the tourney gets fined... weather is looking good.. can't wait to see you all out there
I've been told that before, I'm working on it.
Although I haven't checked wiyh Jason, maybe he'll bring his lap top. Maybe Scott Pitner can help us. He has checked on current members in the past.
I'm informed that there will be a lap top to check current PDGA members & I assume the scores will be posted quickly.

Frank
you can submit all of that info on line and get a response with in a few days.  You don't need to waste money on postage
I didn't see that & I was looking. It didn't take long to write the notes.

One more day for the Cubs & nothing yet. Hey Cubbies, I sent letters to both the Sox & Cubs, the same day. We do have one more day, maybe the Cubs know I'm a Sox fan. Perhaps one of you Cub fans can help me next time.

Kudos to the J-TOWN crew for all their hard work on Morning Stars Ice Bowl. Very very huge and generous sponsors list. It's going to be a bomb!

                                            :)
Thanks for that Randy, you are a part of getting this going, not to mention Thor. I'm thrilled with others that jumped on the wagon, J-Town boys & so many that have contributed.
The bottom line is who shows up Saturday.
Thanks Randy,
Frank

We had a meeting last night about the tournament & one of the things discussed was failure to bring non perishable food items. If you forget to bring something,  there will be a $5.00 charge & that will go to the Mission.
Keep in mind to bring two items for the pantry. I don't want anyone to be suprised at registration.
One more day.............Don't forget the food!
We're going to have coffeein the morning

Thor,

If you can bring cups that would help, I won't get them.
I'll get bowls, spoons, napkins, (I personally don't need napkins) side sauce for the chili something to drink, oyster crackers, & 6 gallons of water for coffee & hot water,
Terri from the mission is bringing coffee, hot chocolate & three coffee makers.
No salt please, I'll take care of the tees along with anyone I can round up.
I'm trying to get out there Thursday afternoon, unfortunately I have other duty.
Ryan Barcas is helping me Friday & I'm going to be there most of the day.
Ray is doing the paint, I'm not sure if we want to reconsider the OB's with snow on the ground. My guess that decision will be made Saturday.
I want to be there around 7am to get the fire going along with running cords for electricity.
Thanks for all you've done Thor, much will go unnoticed.

What's interesting is the state can't pay their vendors. The state owes Moore Glass $60,000. I know someone else that went BK with $250,000 the state owed him. I'm sure it's a grant from the state & Channahon is getting a grant.
I can't help but wonder where the money comes from. The local talk radio is saying the state's in financial trouble. National news says Illinois is in the bottom 10 with financial problems. Go Figure!

that's fine unless we can do it Thursday dont want to get a sore back cutting and have to deal with it sat.  but if not friday is fine
Aside from the radio show tomorrow, I will not be around. we'll share the time splitting. I don't think it will take that long. We need to get the wood to the pavilion. I have a number of things to finish like getting the bowls & what not for the chili. The tees may need to be shoveled, Shawn has helped me with that. Plus other small things that Dean can help me with. If anyone reading this can help out let me know.

I'm playing, but I'd be willing to help out with whatever needs to be done behind the scenes - check scores, leaderboard, anything tournament related where knowledge of tournaments would be beneficial.
Thanks Scott, I think we are going to be OK.
