Title: 4th Annual Jericho Lake Ice Bowl - Saturday, February 13th, Aurora, IL
Post by: stpitner on February 08, 2010, 10:38:32 AM
If you haven't heard - the 4th Annual Jericho Lake Ice Bowl will be on Saturday, February 13th, 2010. This is a fund raising event for Hesed House and the Aurora Interfaith Food Pantry (a branch of Hesed House). There will be 2 rounds at Jericho Lake Park in Aurora, IL. First round is singles, 2nd round seeded doubles based on your first round scores. As the focus of the event is a fund raising event, the event will not be sanctioned. This allows us to offer things such as mulligans for $2 or 3 for $5 that you can only buy before the round and can use throughout either round.

You can sign up at www.paperorplasticsports.com

So far we have more than 80 sponsors signed up to support this event. This is an awesome event for an excellent cause, so will you show your support and come on out? It's $40 for Pro's, $25 for AM's, and $15 for Juniors (<16). $10 from each entry will go to Hesed House. You can sponsor a hole for $25 - email me if interested as well.

In case you are interested in the Ace Fund or other such things that go on at your regularly scheduled tournaments, the following will be available:

$3 Ace Fund - 100% paid out at end of day.  If no aces hit during day, CTP will be set up (some sort of approach shot) with closest 2 to basket split.  If someone Aces the CTP, they get it all.
$2 50/50 CTP - Will probably be for round TWO since everyone will definitely be playing from the same tees.  It will probably be hole #1.  50% of total 50/50 will be donated to Hesed House.

Putting Contest - 9 markers will be place for around the world putting.  I'm probably going to recommend that it be started a couple minutes after the cards start coming in, and then will close 5 minutes after the last card comes in (so the last card people play the game first, then eat).  This way you don't have a line of people standing at each flag.  The volunteer will keep track of the name of the person that made it to the furthest flag before missing both putts (you get 2 tries per flag).  If there is a tie at the end with 2 people getting knocked out on the same flag, the tied players will be called back for a putt-off from the flag where they all missed and continue on until only one person remains.  Entry is free - prize is still TBD.

Mulligans - $2 each, 3 for $5.  Limit 54 per round.  Your first round mulligans are ONLY GOOD DURING THE FIRST ROUND - so use them up.  You will be able to purchase mulligans before the 2nd round (depending on the size of the field we may have to close sales of mulligans for the 2nd round to make sure everyone can get done at a decent time).  100% of the money goes to Hesed House.

Raffle Tickets - $1 each, 6 for $5, 15 for $10.  100% of the cash brought in for the raffle goes to Hesed House.  A list of prizes will be available at the tournament - don't worry though, there will be some good stuff!  I know that there will be a Barry Schultz autographed disc, a really nice Cubs shirt and Bull jacket, as well as a Lazer Autographed Chicago Bears Football.  I expect to have plenty more prizes than that!

CTP's - by playing you will qualify for CTP's (except for the 50/50 - you do have to buy in for that).  The CTP list is still being compiled.  There will be one on every hole BOTH rounds.  We'll split it up for the divisions so that everybody has a good chance to win stuff.  Instead of marking on the CTP flag what you won - we'll have each winner pull a number out of hat (essentially) and the CTP's will be numbered - whatever number you pull, that's what you have won.  To be fair to all - we'll try to limit each winner to no more than 3 CTP prizes.  If you have the closest drive - go ahead and always write your name on the CTP even if you've already had your name on 3 - that way if a previous one gets beat you can still win up to your 3 prizes.  We'll arrange it so that the person who was next closest can also win a prize.  There's more than enough for everyone to give away all this stuff, so enjoy all the free stuff!

Payouts - all of the payouts will be in the form of pick-your-own-prize Reward Dollars redeemable with Paper or Plastic Sports merchandise.  There will be a good selection of product on hand (why wouldn't there be? ;) ), and you can use your payouts on that.  The reward dollars are good all year, you can save them up and use them at any tournament where I'm vending (about 15 events this year).  They are not valid for online sales, but you can contact me via email or PM to arrange a purchase.

Best part of all - HAVE FUN and Support a GREAT Cause!

Just wanna thank those of you Jtown gusy that came up to support the cause. It looks like we were just under $2500 for the day!!!! With the great weather, we had a dull field and even had to turn a few away (even after we added a hole as well).
Hope you guys have just as georgeous of a day as we did!

What would help push us into the wow factor is if we fill this venue up with 72+ golfers.  We need people to come out for this event in order for it to be successful.  Blaine

25 Preregister and 51 walk up.  Sorry we had to turn some away due to the venue being maxed out.  This was a very great day for disc golf power.  Disc players from north, south, east and west came together to Blow this Event out of the Box.  Beautifully run by Scott Pitner at the helm and behind the scenes action by Mr. mike Krupicka, Aaron Scott and Christie Schepp who ran the tables and handled all the paperwork that made the day run smoothly.  Huge thanks to the grounds crew who showed up 5 cars deep at 6:30 am ready for action.  Weeks prior to event Ron Miller led course condition program with the help of many Members who frequent the Jericho site to assure everyone had clear pad conditions.  Held garbage clean up during Tag's witch was no easy task,  great job by many hands overall.  Special shout out to Mr. Randy Moore Sr. who pushed this event to huge levels with all  his donation gathering expertise.  Lastly I would like to thank all who came out to enjoy the brotherhood of discgolf.   Saw many familiar faces and met many new people this weekend and that is why I love this game.  Great group of folks in our community of disc.  Thanks for your support.

Blaine was not in playing mode yesterday ..... he was on cloud 9 with a smile on his face with the success of this event.  I kept telling him to concentrate on the game - to no avail! whatever, he was so happy that so many people came out to support the Hesed House & even more over the moon of all the support from the FVMDGC family members.  I will try to list all of the hands that made this a beautiful event (hopefully I won't leave anyone out, since there were so many Fox Valley hands at work).

Thank you to Sr. for gathering so many sponsors.

Lets just go with I'm starting all sentences with Thank you...

Scott Pitner for being the TD & suppling everyone with a store to shop in

Aaron Scott......beautiful trophy's!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Fox Valley members that helped clean up the course before the event (many members!)...Thank you to John Hoffman for the heads up last week that the course needed a spit shine (we moved bag tags to Jericho to kill 2 birds with one stone - tags & clean up!)

FV members that cleared the tee pads from the snow & ice (George, Jim Mendoza, Ron Miller, Tafe) I'm sure more helped

AM crew during ice bowl - showed up at 6:30 to put out sponsor signs, unload Scott's store, & handled many other little details.  (Bob Hartman, Robby Hartman, Jake Rieser, Kyle Chapman, John Cleavland,.Glenn Gruenke, George)  - Thank you for the bonfire!!!!!

Tyler Williams - Wonderful Chili , I made myself a bowl this year (b4 it was all gone)  Thank you!!  I know you did much more with all the treasurers duties also, Thank you.

Mike Krupicka, you made the leader board look too easy, the way you handled it (shuffling the cards as they came in).  Also, thank you for signing up all of the new members.

Aaron also handled the Mulligan's & raffle (and much more).

Thank you to George for helping with the beginning (setup), middle (bag tags), & end (clean up).

Thank you to Tom McManus for supplying us with an additional basket so we could add a extra hole!+

So many members were helping the entire day (6:30 am till 6:30 pm) that all I can say is "Thank You FVMDGC!"

Everywhere I looked members were pitching in to help where help was needed, what a proud day for FVMDGC!

also a thanks to my coworker Syed for coming out in the morning to help unload - he has gone out to play some rounds casually with coworkers, but wanted to see what some of the better players could do.  He was quite impressed!

So who is ready to start taking sponsorships for next year? lol!

I also want to add another thanks to Glenn for helping out with the putting contest. I actually got to play in it this year!
The winner of this event was Aaron Scott who got thru station #6 followed by Ron Bredenitz who beat Ray Eswuivel in a playoff for second place. They both got thru station #4.
And don't forget the SCHEPPS! They were there from sunup till sundown helping out with this event. You two do more behind the scenes stuff that no one really knows about or realizes. THANK YOU!!!!

Great work from all of the Fox Valley crew for the Ice Bowl.  So many of you put your heart, soul, shovels, mouths, behnds and skills into this event.  You could not control the weather and got a perfect day considering it was February.  Minimal wind, bright sunshine and temperatures that were easily controlled with proper clothing and hand warmers.  Your efforts getting sponsors, feeding us lunch, cleaning tee pads, creating signs and creating a generally good atmosphere were tremendous.  Great work guys and gals.  I think we all came home smelling like a campfire and smiling about it.

Couldn't agree more with everyone's comments.  I had a blast and had some really fun cards both rounds.  We had some amazing weather too.  Really well run tournament especially with the huge turnout.  Hats off to all you guys that made it run smoothly!  Thanks guys for one of the funnest tournements I've played in a long time.
