What a day!!!
« on: February 04, 2012, 10:58:05 PM »
I couldn't be more pleased with how the day went! It was 2 1/2 months ago this fundraiser started ,& all my frustrations vanished! There is so much information, the Ice Bowl sponsor list won't let me update it. Jason!!!
We had 82 players show up with an 80% chance of rain. The conditions would be mud & slop & 38 degrees. Think about it, we had 58 players for the Channahon Classic & 82 today with only 7 divisions.
I think it's common knowledge I was big in raising sponsors, & raffle items. To be clear, it's the overall picture starting with the J-Town board, Ray, Jason, Dean & Dave. The players! What the hell  has a tournament without players? Many from Fox Valley came out to support our event, tremendous! I cracked my ribs two weeks ago & was limited in what I could do & Shawn Harmon had my back. Scott Coyne & Brian Sullivan with the fire.
Can you believe as one organization we raised in the area of $8,000? I'm told that the Joliet area is known for it's known it's disc golfers. Guess what  America? We're also going to be known for giving back to our Community!!!We did good & all the parts fit!
Thanks to all that made this a success!

Great Day for J-Town!  That was intense.  I would, also, like to thank everyone that made this happen:  Big Bangin' Frank, Terry & The Morning Star Mission, Dave Kociuba, jason poole, ray hill, gary lewis, mike kursell, dale delsasso, thor batchelor, scott coyne and brian sullivan for the warmth, all the big sponsors, the players(82, nice!), anyone who bought raffle tickets/the silent auction (that all went to the Mission), the travelers from Fox Valley, Rockford(this is all I can think of right now), Lauren Lakeberg for taking some pictures, Channahon Park District, and anyone I missed (you know who you are).Thank You!

Thanks Dean! I missed a ton that made the Day special. Geeez Frank!!! I want to add one little story. First everyone I know was a target. I bumped into Joe (Joe, John & Bob) He has a friend  the Mission helped out & got him on his feet. Shawn Harmon spread chips in key areas.
It started with our club!!!

Shawn Harmon Gets the Victory at Disc Golf’s J Town Ice Bowl in Channahon, Illinois
By K.C. Dermody, Yahoo! Contributor Network

The J Town Ice Bowl took place in Channahon, Illinois on Saturday, February 4, 2012, at the Community Park Disc Golf Course. This was a PDGA sanctioned C-Tier event with 82 disc golfers coming out to compete on rather chilly winter day in the Midwest.

This tournament served as a fundraiser for the Morning Star Mission, which supports both spiritual and physical hunger of the poor by providing food for the hungry, clothing for the needy and shelter for the homeless. This was the third annual event, and it was Shawn Harmon of Joliet, Illinois who captured the victory in the open division in overtime after tying with Chris Brenholtz of Downers Grove, Illinois. Both players had a final score of 12-under par.

In 2011, Harmon had a second place finish at the Dave Pitner Memorial in May, and he had a third place finish at the Whet Up or Shut Up Throwdown in June. It was Brenholtz who won the Whet Up or Shut Up Throwdown last year. He had a fourth place finish at J Town Ice Bowl last year, and an impressive sixth place finish at the Illinois State Disc Golf Championships that was held in July.

Finishing in third place behind Brenholtz was Rich Klein III of Pana, Illinois scoring 10-under par. Last year he had victories in the advanced division at the Bloomington Normal Open and the ROC the Worlds Preview #3 - Basil Marella.

Randy Moore of Oswego, Illinois was in fourth place with a score of 8-under par. Moore had a third place finish at the Oswego Open and at the JTown Disc Golf Club Invitational. In a tie for fifth place, was Alan Hermosillo of Blue Island, Illinois and Clayton Drake of Metropolis, Illinois, both scoring 7-under par.

The advanced division winner was Bryan Sullivan of Minooka, Illinois, scoring 11-under par. Sullivan had a win at the Pine Hills Experiment last March. He was followed by local Ben Carrescia who scored 8-under par, and in a tie for third at just a stroke behind, was Randy Moore Sr. and Jason Riley, both with a score of 7-under par.

Colleen Thompson captured the win for the women in the advanced division with a score of 11-over par. Thompson is from Lemont, Illinois and had several wins in the same division last year, including last year's Ice Bowl event and the Channahon Classic held in September. She also had an impressive second place finish for the women in the open division at the Indiana State Championships in July.

Danny Bilow won the intermediate division scoring 6-under par, while Ryan Barcas was the winner of the recreational division, John Seaborn took the win in the novice division and Danny Tejero won for the under 19 boys.

Congratulations to all the winners and competitors for a great day of disc golf for a good cause!
