Leagues & Tourneys / Re: 2013 DISContinuum Club Challenge
« on: March 15, 2013, 09:09:32 PM »
We seem to be having a fantastic turnout for JTown...what that means, unfortunately, is that yes indeed, it is going to be first come first serve. However, nothing is set in stone and there may be some clubs that need a couple of players and it would not hurt ANYONE'S feelings (as a matter of fact, it would gain some sweet kudos) if we had JTown players that helped out some other clubs if they needed a couple of players to round out their roster.

in the event the course still has unplayable conditions for the end of march, are we looking at pushing the series back, or substituting one of the others to be played early and push pine to that events date?

Dana mentioned on FB yesterday that he is going to have an alternate course (Streator probably) if Pine Hills isn't playable. Sounds like no more postponing.

J-Town Disc Golf Club / Re: Weekly Bag Tag Challenge
« on: March 12, 2013, 05:55:10 AM »
Tags are cancelled for this week, Saturday March 16.  They will resume March 23 at Lockport.  Come to the club challenge this Saturday at Mokena!

Yes, please come on out! It's still bag tags (we are still playing for our own tags based on scratch score within the club), it's still casual (not sanctioned), but its for more bragging rights (and lots of fun) than just your JTown tag! If we win we can have bragging rights on the other clubs in northern Illinois!

Thank You's / Re: Thanks to Innova!!
« on: March 07, 2013, 07:18:50 AM »
Here's a different kind of thank you!

First the background:  For Christmas, I got a flag pole for my front yard!  I have wanted one of these telescopic flag poles for years now.

In addition to flying an American flag, I also have a Cubs flag (sorry Frank!).  I also wanted a "disc golf" flag.  Didn't really matter what type but I started looking for an Innova flag that would work.

These proved to be very difficult to find.  On a whim and after searching since the first of the year, I decided to email the company.

Early afternoon I got a reply from David Shope in customer service telling me that they have a flag that should work nicely.  I sent an email back telling him that would be awesome and in addition to my address what would the charge be??

2 hours later he replied saying it was on it's way to me and there would be no charge!

I replied back letting him know I'd send a pic or two of it once I get it in the ground this spring!

I don't throw Innova plastic exclusively, I'll throw anything that works for me!  Nonetheless, pretty cool gesture on Innova's part.  Just wanted to share that with my disc golf fam!!

That is awesome! I can't wait to check it out!

Yeah that is what I am referring to. This way I don't have to wait to first 3 weeks of leagues.

After getting responses from the officers, it will be sufficient to use the best 3 of your last 5 bag tag scores to get your handicap. That will go for anyone that doesn't have a rating and plays bag tags.

I believe he is refering t o doing s couple of rounds with an official to establish his handicap prior to leagues.

Is that what you mean, Mike F.? I will talk to some of the officers and see if they will allow bag tags results from Aaron to be used. There might be a stipulation that you have to play on the same card as either me, Aaron, or Dean...or just Dean, but I will ask.

Announcement- The Event is officially postponed until Saturday, March 30th.  We have decided that with the current snow on the ground and more in the forecast followed by 40-50 degree weather that the course will be closed/unplayable.  I apologize for the inconvenience. I should have done a better job with scheduling the event in the first place.  Full refunds will be given, or you want you can roll it over to March 30th.  Everything will be the same for the series.  Please help me spread the word to anyone who was planning on coming out.  I'll be contacting everyone that is pre-registered.

This may sound bad, but...YES!!! I was worried that I wasn't going to get to play this tournament due to family being in town! Thank you weather!  That is all  :-X

That's just awesome! Going to be a great year and great events! Thanks for putting in so much effort, Dana!

J-Town Disc Golf Club / Re: Sanctioning Bag Tags
« on: February 28, 2013, 03:54:19 PM »
Don't be intimidated or confused by the handicap league.  Bag tags are sorted with your scratch score (your true score without a handicap).  The sanctioned rounds are, also, submitted with your scratch score.  The payouts are determined by your handicap score.  The league is available for players that want to get the experience of singles play, as you would in a tournament.  The handicap is similar to a bowling league.  This allows more people to compete against each other without worrying about not having enough in your division.  I believe it makes you a better player.  Some think that it is not fair, but if you play frequently, it all evens-out in the end.  Handicap system is designed to keep it fair.  If people want to sandbag, then they are just giving their money away, and good luck making it beneficial for the entire season.

Great explanation! It definitely all evens out and it is very worth it. My rating might not reflect it, but I learned a lot about the sport that it probably would have taken years to learn otherwise.

After talking to Jason, the name has to stay at Frank's and Bean's due to the perpetual trophy system they have negotiated for JTown. No biggie; Frank and Dean are still involved and it's still an awesome day disc golfing!

Want to also confirm that Handicap League will indeed start on April 2nd, 2013.

Why April 9th, why not April 2nd?? or March 26th??

Just curious...

Thanks!

Kev

No real reason other than I wanted to be sure we were ready with the PDGA - I put TENTATIVE, so we may indeed start the week prior (April 2nd)

Frank's and Bean's Tuesday Night Handicap League

(Handicap - Singles League)

Start date:  APRIL 2nd, 2013 and will be the same schedule and course as the doubles league, just the night before doubles. (See Doubles Schedule on front page).

Entry fee ($5); optional Ace ($1); optional PDGA sanction ($1); CTPs (2 or 3 CTPs @ $2 each). CTPs will be designated as Prize Fund & Club Enhancements.

The payout will be the top 30% with a minimum of $5 for last cash.  $0.50 from each entry fee will pay the hot round of the day.

Players will still have the option of playing leagues as a PDGA Sanctioned event.  They will receive official ratings and points.

Handling of non-rated players:  If you do not have a PDGA rating, your first 3 rounds at the handicap leagues will be free to establish your handicap.  You will only be allowed to participate in the Ace Fund, CTPs, and Bag Tags (Bag Tags will be determined on the scratch score).

Another option to acquire your handicap: if a club officer is willing to play those three rounds outside of league night, they will "sign off" that your scores are valid to use to develop your 3 round minimum for getting your "handicap". After you accumulate more rounds, your rating will be taken from your last 5 rounds.

Frank Grimes, Rob Gibson, and Dean Bingham will be running Handicap League. Jason Poole will be handling the PDGA sanctioning and results.

You know I am for it...even though I suck, I would like to have more chances to improve my rating.
