Title: April 9th - First Flight at Highland Park
Post by: Aces and Chains on March 21, 2011, 10:39:55 AM
Aces and Chains is proud to present our first tournament of 2011:

April 9th - First Flight 2011 at Highland Park

Two 18+ hole rounds at Highland Park for a total of 36+ holes in this tournament.

Highland Park is ranked as one of the best disc golf courses in the state of Illinois by the PDGA State Coordinator. This is an extremely tough course. It has great variety, with a lot of elevation, and a high risk/reward factor. Come out and enjoy a true challenge at Highland Park.

This tournament will fill up. Pre-registration is highly recommended.

Pre-registration is available both online, and in person at the store (Please bring cash only if registering at the store.) Pre-registration closes at 7pm Friday, April 8th. Registration the day of the event is an additional $10. Please try to pre-register. We'd like to eliminate registration for the morning of the event if possible.

Register online at http://www.acesandchains.com/node/438

Registration/Check-in will be open from 8am-9am. Players meeting at approx. 9:15am, and tee off at approx. 9:30am.

Here's the current tee plan:

Pro/Adv: Blue tees (Longs) first round and White tees the second (normal).
All other AMs: White tees both rounds.

I don't plan on using the Red tees at this tournament. Both the Blue, and the White tees have concrete pads. The Reds are still natural.

The White tees are hard enough at Highland. Making anyone below Adv play the Blue tees could be against the Geneva Convention.....

Looks like I'll need a temp basket for 15. If someone has a nice temp basket I can use, please let me know.

I know it's been almost a month since this tournament finished, but I saw this post on another board, and after responding, I really wanted to share it here as well.

My response:

Thank you so much! I really appreciate the compliment.

I do try to run a great tournament. There is a lot of work, and there is always something that falls thru the cracks, or that I feel I/we could have done better. The more help I get, the easier it is to run a great tournament. So, I would be remiss here if I took all the credit. First Flights team was:

Mike Kursell: Did all the great artwork for the tourney, including, but not limited to: Tourney stamp for the glo Destroyers and Firebirds, Poster artwork and printing, custom scorecard for FF/Highland Park, fantastic trophies made from scratch. Seemed like whenever something needed to be done in preparation, Mike was there asking me if he could do it. He also made the logo for my shop and tweaked that artwork for T-shirts for the grand opening. Almost all of those things are beyond my skill level.

Jon Boster: Always there to help me, no matter what I need. Can't say enough about this guy. He helps me at the shop. He helps me at tournaments. I know he's my sponsored Pro, but he gives as good as he gets and then some.

Cory Clements: I can always depend on Cory to be there tournament day to help with Pre-reg, check-in, and whatever needs to be done thru the day. In a word, Cory is dependable. Sounds boring doesn't it? But, I don't have to worry about him showing up. That is priceless!

Jason Riley: I turned around at one of my tournaments last year to find Jason helping with the scoreboard. He's been my official keeper of the leaderboard ever since. One more thing I don't have to worry about!

That's my team. They deserve a lot of kudos for helping me out and making my job easier. If I forgot anyone, just kick me next time you see me. Thanks for giving me the opportunity to thank them once again!

Please note that there are a lot of other people who also make my tournaments (and everyone else's possible.) I'm talking about the J-town crew, Frank Grimes, Gary Lewis, and countless other volunteers who install, improve, and do upkeep on all our courses. Thanks to everyone who helps out in their own way.

That was me!! You forgot to add the part at the end where I said to you and your entire team though.  ;D
I really do appreciate all the hard work you put into.having these tourneys alog with every and anyone that helps you out. Not to mention everyone who puts endless hours into all the great courses we have in jtown. Especially Frank with channahon. That course gets better and better as he adds little things (and big ones) day by day. Looking forward to playing in all your upcoming tournaments. Keep up the great work!!!

Sorry, I was skipping the text in the middle and I truncated that part too. Of course I recognized that you were thanking my team as well, but I wanted to say a little bit about each team member.

Frank does great work. Just sat on the bench for 16 last night......ahhhhhhh. Nice to relax after that long walk (back and forth across the fairways.....my throws weren't so good last night. Lol) I am amazed at how much work Frank finds time to do at Channahon. There is no way I could keep up with this guy.

So many people do the work for us. It's hard to mention them all in a post. But I do remember them always. Frank, Gary, Jesse, Darrin, Jason & Jason, Dean, Ray, Mike......the list could go on and on. Keep up the good work guys!
