J-Town Ice Bowl / Pounds of Food
« on: February 10, 2011, 07:27:42 PM »
The Mission said we had 231 lbs. of food. If the salt is added, as some do, it's 301 lbs. The park gave me 20 lbs. & I gave 50 lbs.

J-Town Ice Bowl / Morning Star Mission Blog
« on: February 09, 2011, 04:51:02 AM »
Morning Star has a blog about us.I don't know who reads it but it gives exposure to J-Town. Probably more important, it'll reach people that we couldn't. This expands on what Gary said before the second round.

J-Town Ice Bowl / Re: Ice Bowl 2011 Sponsors
« on: February 07, 2011, 07:20:10 PM »
flash,
you have alot of room to talk, yes frank does do alot of work for this tourney and most of the J town members might not have donated directly,  like you did but I know alot of them shot in the tourney, (which i did not see you at) and of the members that did shoot in the tourney, alot of them bought raffle tickets which the money raised was also donated, so we all did our part or what we could do to help out and i think the  5500 or so that was raised proves that.

                          Dr pepper

I want to start with the bottom line first Flash has my back. He wanted to help but has a family & had some deal to go to with the kids. He offered to help until the BOSS told him differently. He lives for his family & that compromises his desires. I talk with Flash often & he offered to spend his gas to help with the sponsors. To give you some sliver of an idea of my frustration that I expressed to Flash. Jody's Hot Dogs!  As I ordered a meal & as doing so, asked for a donation. they said sure went back four times & got zero. Jewel on Jefferson, was four times, zero.
I know it was a financial  sacrifice for you,it cost you an extra $20.00& thanks for coming out.
Few know the effort. Gary Lewis knows & Flash knows from what I told him. Try 10 get 10 sponsors, cash sponsors. I've been breathing, eating, living, & focused on this since Thanksgiving. It's important to have players, that's why it's sanctioned. Think about it, if your motive was to give, $10.00 would be the same as playing. But why have a tournament with no players.
I love your spirit Dr. Pepper but Flash has more inside information & expressed my frustration. I might add, without my knoeledge.  If you look at my posts I was trying upside down backwords to encourage  giving.
I mentioned this already, the J-Town board was a thing of beauty!
I had a personal goal of $5,000.00 & I couldn't be happier with the bottom line. We did this as a club, that's what the records will show.
I hope this helps you understand.
OK! Now I have to get the numbers to balance.

I may be one of the play for fun people. Depending on the amount of players, I could move up.

J-Town Ice Bowl / Re: What Great Day / Week
« on: February 05, 2011, 07:24:51 PM »
If you've been following the posts this week, you will also have noticed the people that helped. I want to add what a pleasure it was today. The work my fellow board members was outstanding!
I also want to make note of the respect Terri said she got from the disc golfers.
The Herald News was out today. The Sunday paper reaches 39,000. town was in there a few weeks ago. I think Dean was responsible for that. If it's put in it's more exposure & good PR. Just think about our club is helping an organization that has been in Joliet for over 100 years. They get a huge donations from the community & we're part of that. Our club will be noticed for doing such a good thing.
This was a rough week with 20" of snow & we rose to the occasion. The J-Town board put the frosting on the cake.
Thanks everyone, it's a good thing we did.

PS The scores were up before most left the parking lot.
I want to add something. I realize I'm not the most clear glass to read through when reading my posts. You in our disc golf community are my friends. It hurts me when I hear the negative comments about my friends. They're disrespectful, vandalise, just pieces of shit! They're talking about my friends & that hurts me!  This may be one of these fuzzy messages.
I went to the park Friday asking permission to plow. They saw the crew that came out Thursday to shovel the tees. This was the first time I heard a tone of respect & positive regard about disc golfers. We did what we had to do to make this tournament happen & the park took notice.
We're helping The Mission, that's been around for over a hundred years, & people take note. Many donations I got already give on a monthly basis. They believe in the Mission that they gave more. It's win, win, if you played good, bought raffle tickets, better, & if you sponsored best.
Keep in mind, I have a lot of disc golf friends, & I don't like them talking shit about them.

J-Town Ice Bowl / Re: Tees for Ice Bowl

Today was an unbelievable good day. I was to meet Shawn Harmon at noon. He showed up with his brother Scott (donated $50.00 to our fundraiser} along with Brad Beverley.  I came back to the parking lot to exchange my shovel for a blower. I see Al Hermosillo & Chris Brenholtz, they had to travel some distance, & then Mike pulls up.  They started on #18 & worked their way to #15. In the middle of all this Dave Kociuba shows up. We stopped on #12 thinking the other crew would go to #13. Not so & Jacob's car is in the lot. He does #13 & & #14. That lifted my spirits to a level I haven't had in a while. Now it's not over, Dean Bingham came out with a snow blower & he with a small help from me, removed the snow from the pavilion. Just super!!!
You guys are the greatest!!!
Shawn was shoveling so hard he broke his shovel.Brad didn't mind, he used his shovel.
Thanks Fellas, I don't know if I could count on me like I thought. To be sure I'd give the effort.

I'm meeting Shawn Harmon at noon tomorrow. I'm sure the pavilion is going to need some work also, besides the tees. Mike & Jacob around 1:00pm Jason Poole said he'd be there a little after 2:00pm, Dr Pepper when they plow his street. The forcast is cold but sunny.I don't think there can be too many volunteers. Bring shovels & help if you can.

J-Town Ice Bowl / Leo B. Old School, Secure Ribbons
« on: February 02, 2011, 06:42:21 PM »
I was talking to Leo today, we were both stuck in traffic so there wasn't much to do except talk. I asked what would be the best way to secure ribbons for the Ice Bowl.
First your disc need to be room temperature. VERY IMPORTANT!
Cut Christmas ribbon about 1/4" 21/2 - 3' long.
Leo suggested cheap duct tape. He said it holds better.
Secure the duct tape to the ribbon & press to the disc as close to center as possible.
Help seal the adhesive to the disc with a hair dryer.
If there is adhesive left on the disc it can easily be remover with mineral spirits.
Thanks Leo, it's great to have friends
