WEEK 4 - April 25, 2012
First Half #4
Community Park - Channahon

TEES
22 Holes - Short Tees - Par 66
Added Holes A-D after hole #18

CONDITIONS
Low 70s to start the round- High 50s at the end of the round. Winds were strong throughout the night. The course is in Unbelievable shape. A perfect night for league. The storms never showed up.

COMMENTS
Frank Grimes has turned Community Park into  a botanical garden. We all know the amazing hard physical work Paco has put into making this course look and play great. But it’s his attention to detail that puts this course into that completely amazing category. You know you have a special disc golf course when the course caretaker is fertilizing and putting down dandelion killer.

The Non Stop Disc Golf crew were in town to give a clinic and share their knowledge to the local disc golf scene. It seemed like it went very well with a least 40 players participating in the clinic. The crew of Catrina Allen, David Feldberg, Cale Leiviska, Paul Ulibarri, and Will Schusterick all ended up staying and playing in the league. It was exciting and an honor to have these players come out.
Thanks to all our local guys who were involved in making this happen.

With the extra players from the clinic the league sign-up turned into a feeding frenzy.  We tried to let as many players sign up as we possibly could, but it’s tough with the shorten daylight. We had no choice but to cut off the field. As the year goes on we can add more holes and let more players enter the field. We are sorry if you were turned away

Again last night we had many new faces that we hope will continue to show up each week. We also hope that the familiar faces that weren’t there will make their way back and be part of this year’s league. We know you’re listening so get out here. We miss you!
Please don’t be discouraged if you’re an AM and had a rough night. Shake it off and try again next week. The more you play and learn from the league’s more experienced players the better your game will evolve. We’ve all been through this stage.

The Taco Lady is back! Juanita & Scott will be selling tacos for a $1.50 at league for most of the rest of the year.

Next week is Highland Park so to guarantee a spot  try and get there when we open registration at around 4:15 - 4:30pm.
WE START AT 5:30 NEXT WEEK.

PLAYERS
93 Players
54 PRO/ADV   39 AM/NOV

TOP THREE
PRO/ADV

Jimmy McDonald & Chris Brenholtz put an old fashion whipping on the Pro/Adv field shooting an amazing round of 46 (-20). They win by two strokes and split a sweet pot of 153 bucks. Jimmy Mac also aced hole #7 which was also the basket fund ctp. With the extremely strong and very large field this will go down as one of the best rounds in our doubles league history. Nice shooting guys! Leo Borowski & Cale Leiviska end up in second place alone shooting an amazing round of 48 (-18). They end up taking home $52.50 each. This was another very strong round. Will Schusterick & Mike Sale end up taking the third place honors with a great round of 49 (-17). They end up splitting 76 bucks.

TOP THREE
AM/NOV

Kester Jeffers & Kevin Won shoot an extremely impressive round of 54(-12) to win the top honors out right. They immediately jump up in the point totals and split $70. We had a three way tie for third with teams shooting nice rounds of 56 (-10). Joe Heinen & Kevin Yockman win the ctp playoff on hole #1 to take third place honors. They end up splitting 32 bucks.
It’s definitely shaping up to be an extremely competitive Am/Nov field this year.

WEEK 6 - May 9, 2012
First Half #6

Trinity Links - Lockport

TEES
18 Holes - Short Tees - Par 54

CONDITIONS
Around 60  to start the round and dropped to around 50 by the end of the round. The recent rain made the course a bit muddy. The Trinity swamps where way up and hungry. A nice night buy a little cool.

COMMENTS
The Swamps of Trinity were very high, deep and ruthless as they swallowed up discs like there was no tomorrow. The otherwise short and relatively easier shots over the swamps of hole  1, 2 & 15 played major mind games with many players. At least 10 -15 discs from just last night  lie in the dark abyss of the Trinity Swamps. The murder rake got another workout!
Thanks again to Thor for letting us use the clubhouse. Also thanks to all the Trinity crew that have shaped these great course into what it is today.

To our experienced Ams that pair up with a beginner. Your guidance towards these players are a major part of the future success of the league. Please be a mentor to  these new players and make sure when they leave they feel like they had the coolest time and want to come back. WE START AT 5:30 NEXT WEEK .

PLAYERS
71 Players
35 PRO/ADV   36 AM/NOV

TOP THREE
PRO/ADV

Buddy Lee & Justin Elmore  wreak havoc on the Pro/Adv field by shooting an incredible round of 40.  This is an awesome round and a new doubles record on the new Trinity layout. The old record of 41 was set back in week three by Tom M. and Al H. Lester & Justin end up splitting 129 bucks. We also had a new Cali record set with a great round thrown by Dave Kociuba. He finished a fantastic round of 42 (12) and took home $85. It’s been a long time since someone playing Cali has done this well. Tom Matesevac & Randy McMurray end up taking the third place honors for the night with a very nice round of 44 (10). They end up taking home 28 bucks each. They also tack on much needed points to their totals for the first half.

TOP THREE
AM/NOV

Kester Jeffers & Brian Carey completely destroy the Am/Nov field by three strokes. They end up shooting an incredible round of 45 (-9). Kester has won every time he has been out this year. This is Kester’s third win in a row and he is putting on a clinic for the rest of the Am/Nov field. He now jumps in to first place in points alone. Dan McMillin and Steve Rasberger take the second place honors and they split 39 bucks. They end up shooting a nice round of 48 (-6). We had a tie for third with the teams shooting good rounds of 49 (-5). Dave Broughton & Dave Pleski win the ctp playoff on hole #1 to capture the win. WEEK 7 - May 16, 2012
First Half #7
Community Park - Channahon

TEES
18 Holes - Short Tees - Par 54

CONDITIONS
The temperature to start the round was in the mid  60s with strong NE winds. The sun was out and it felt great. The temp dropped to the mid 50s by the end of the round. A very cool ending. The course was pretty much dry.  Although the water level on the water holes were very high and deep. The wind on hole one seemed to be blowing a lot discs into the pond by hole two's tee pads. There were a whole lot of wet guys freezing their butts off. As always Community Park was in fantastic shape.

COMMENTS
Thanks again to Paco Grimes for all his dedication and hard work on the course. To think ten years ago this course used to be so brutally overgrown by the late spring through the end of summer players just didn’t want to play it. Now it’s an amazing place to play all year round.

To our experienced Ams that pair up with a beginner. Your guidance towards these players is a major part of the future success of the league. Please be a mentor to  these new players and make sure when they leave they feel like they had the coolest time and want to come back. It’s great to win but if feels a whole lot better knowing you helped make difference in someone’s game. You just might be helping the next great player in our area.

White Men Can’t Jump! The last couple nights after league a few guys have started a pick-up game of basketball. It doesn’t look pretty but it looks  and sounds very competitive. Maybe a new tradition has started.

Tracy Kenner is back and getting the payouts ready for the night. This is a huge burden of our shoulders at the end of the night. Thanks Tracy!

Next week is WEST PARK so to guarantee a spot try and get there when we open registration at 4:15 - 4:30pm.

WE START AT 5:30 NEXT WEEK .

PLAYERS
68 Players

This is Buddy’s second win in a row and he quickly moves up the points list for the first half. Darrin Johnson & Matt Myers take second place by shooting a very nice round of 40 (14). They end up taking home $39 each. Darrin jumps into second place for the first half with this big second place win. Steve Forneris and Jason Riley tie for third but win the ctp playoff on hole #1 take the the honors. They end up splitting 50 bucks. Steve adds two huge points and still remains in first by two points for the first half. Jason also gets two big points which pushes him into a tie for sixth place for this half.

WEEK 8 - May 23, 2012
First Half #8
West Park - Joliet

TEES
24 Holes - Short Tees - Par 72

CONDITIONS
The temperature to start the round was in the low  80s with some wind. The sun was out and it felt great. The temp dropped into the 70s by the end of the round.  The course was pretty much dry.

COMMENTS
To our experienced Ams that pair up with a beginner. Your guidance towards these players is a major part of the future success of the league. Please be a mentor to  these new players and make sure when they leave they feel like they had the coolest time and want to come back. It's great to win but if feels a whole lot better knowing you helped make difference in someones game. You just might be helping the next great player in our area.

The first time brothers won their divisions in the same night. Jason Smith & Danny Tejero take the top honors in their divisions for the night.
Also the first time we had aces by partners in the same round. Thor Batchelor on hole 19 & Danny Tejero on hole 7.

It was a deuce or go home kind of night. Just put it this way a -18 didn’t cash in Open/Adv division and a -14 didn't cash in the Am/Nov division. What the Hell!

Tracy Kenner is back and getting the payouts ready for the night. This is a huge burden of our shoulders at the end of the night. Thanks Tracy!

Highland Park still proves to be the toughest course in the area. When you have an eight down cashing in Pro/Adv and a five down in Am/Nov you know you have something special. It tests everyone's skills to the fullest. What a great course!

The race  for  the top four spots in each division is heating up. With only four weeks left in the first half the gaps for the top spots are closing in and each week  more players are moving into the picture. It should be a great race to the July finish.

The Fourth of July falls on a Wednesday which would be the first week of the second half. League will be canceled that week and resume on July 11. Go and celebrate with your friends and families.

Thanks Tracy for getting the payout ready for the night. This is a huge burden of our shoulders at the end of the night.

Next week is THE OAKS  with registration starting at 4:15 - 4:30 pm.

PLAYERS
64 Players
31  PRO/ADV   33 AM/NOV

TOP THREE
PRO/ADV

Jon Vargo & Dan Osysko take the top honors for the night shooting a fantastic round of 43 (-11) They end splitting 124 bucks. This is a  huge win for Dan O. as he jumps into a tie for fifth for the first half and only two points out of fourth. He’s playing some good golf right now. Tom Matesevac & Nick Austin shoot a very nice round of 44 (-10)  to take the second spot and split 75 bucks. This was a huge second place finish as Tom moves into a  tie for second and only one point out of first. Tom’s game is peaking right now and he will definitely make a serious run for the first half title. Tying for third and winning the ctp playoff on hole #10 were Darrin Johnson & Steve Forneris. They end up taking home $25 each. The teams ended up shooting nice rounds of 45 (-9). Fern & DJ add on a much needed extra point to their first half totals as the rest of the field tries to catch them. They stay on top of the first half points chart.

TOP THREE
AM/NOV

Winning out right with a great round of 47 (-7) were Kevin Yockman & Dan Janes. They end up taking home $32.50 each. This is Kevin’s second time he has won at Highland this year and by doing so he jumps into first place for the first half. He is now on top of the charts alone by two points. We had a tie for second with the teams shooting very nice rounds of 48 (-6). Kevin Macuiba and Adam Brkovic win the ctp playoff on hole #8 to take the second place victory. They end up splitting 36 bucks. This is a huge win for Kevin as he now jumps into a tie for fourth and in striking distance for the top spot. Jake Broughton & Michael Saenz take the third spot and split 25 bucks. Jake also moves into a tie for fourth for the first half and is breathing down the neck of the top three guys. Mikey is now only four points out of fourth with four weeks left. He has definitely moved himself into position to take one of the top four spots for the first half.
