Leagues & Tourneys / Points updates

Points updates below up to and including Chain Reaction. Deuces Wild does not show PDGA points yet, and I'm working with the PDGA to get that fixed.

Leagues & Tourneys / August 27th & 28th - The Wild West
« on: August 04, 2011, 07:41:59 AM »
New incentive to pre-register:

I'm going to try something new to encourage pre-registration. I will be adding at least 3 free CTPs for everyone who pre-registers. If I get a lot of pre-registrations, I'll add more. I have some beautiful Supercolor Buzzz's and Roc +'s that I will donate for CTPs. Mike Kursell's "Zombie Bandit" artwork is on these, and they came out great. That's a $25 value for each FREE CTP. I may add a shirt or two if I do more than three CTPs.

So, pre-register and have even more fun!

Now, here's the official info:

West Park - August 27th & 28th - The Wild West 2011

Two rounds of 24+ holes thru mature oak trees and elevation changes. Come out and see why West Park is a local's favorite. First round shorts, and second round long tees. Players meeting at approx. 9:15am and tee off at approx. 9:30am both days

Pre-registration is available here: http://www.acesandchains.com/node/442

Pre-registration is available until 8pm the Friday before the tournament, both at the shop (1706 W. Jefferson St., Joliet, IL) and online at the link above. Registration the day of the tournament is available from 8am-9am with a $5 walk up fee.

Tentative schedule:

Saturday:

Novice
Intermediate
all Pro divisions

Sunday:

all Jr divisions
all Women's divisions
Recreational
all Advanced divisions

Hope to see you all there. If you have any questions, post them here and I'll answer them.

Shoot The Breeze / Re: Gary Lewis Achievement Award
« on: July 28, 2011, 06:47:56 AM »
Absolutely, Jesse's name should be on that list! He fits the description nicely.
Not only does he make a good candidate this year, but he has a long history that fits this award description. Thanks for all the good times at doubles, and the quality ISDGC tournament every year!

I'd also like to plug for Dean Bingham: This guy does a lot behind the scenes that many disc golfers may be unaware of. I think most of us that frequent J-Town understand this, but it won't hurt to mention it here. I just seem to see his name mentioned on every project that gets done in the area. Glad to see you get nominated Dean!

Thor Batchelor has done a fantastic job over at Trinity Links this year. Amazing amount of changes that have made that course more interesting, and more challenging. Congrats on getting nominated Thor!

And then we have the dark horse.....Jason Poole. I say dark horse because Jason is so quiet. He's like Andre Johnson in the NFL.....indespensible to his team, but not the first name to come to mind because he's so quiet and unassuming. Great to see you get nominated Jason!

Weather report for Sunday: 86 and partly cloudy. Sounds like a great day for disc golf!

I've thought about this one a lot. The walk up fee is intended to encourage pre-registration. And I was tempted to stick to my original stance. It just makes the tournament run so much smoother when the majority of the players pre-register. So, before I announce any changes, let me just say this:

Please! If you can, please pre-register!

I've decided to compromise, and reduce the walk up fee to $5 for Deuces Wild. In addition, the first 5 players that offer to help with registration, or whatever else needs doing can get the fee waived.

I'm going to try this as a trial run. My intention is to make the walk up fee less painful, while improving the registration process. If this reduces the chaos in the morning, I may use this model going forward.

I'm also going to make a sign for the Pre-reg only line. Players who pre-reg will be able to walk up, sign their card, get their players pack and be done.

Hopefully, this will improve the process and the experience for everyone involved.

Pre-registration for Deuces Wild is open thru SATURDAY at 7pm. You may register online (see link above), or in person at the store (1706 W. Jefferson St., Joliet, IL.) My thanks to everyone who pre-registers!

Good point Tafe.

I had planned to have Adv. and Pro play the blue tees at Highland, and the longs at Trinity. With that being the case, it's better to keep the other Ams separate from the Adv/Pro divisions for safety reasons.

I'll look at the field on Sunday though, and if I feel it doesn't make any sense to stay separate, then I may put the whole field together, but all on the shorts at Trinity, and White tees at Highland.

Played Trinity a couple times over the weekend, and Thor really has the course looking nice! This course is light years ahead of where it was just one year ago. Drainage has been improved, wood chips spread on the paths, and interesting new tee pad placements on several holes. There are new tee pad locations for either the short or long (or both) tees on holes 1, 2, 4, 7, 9, 12, & 18, and 15, 17, and 18 have new pin placements. I may have missed a few too, as I'm not that familiar with where the old long tees were at. The long and short of it is that the course plays much differently than it did in the past. The amount of risk/reward and decisions has been increased, making it a much more interesting course. Even if you don't plan to play the tournament, I suggest you come out to Trinity and check out the course again.

Oh, and deuces may be harder to come by than in the past........just sayin....

Nice catch Sr.!

Fixed.

Long answer: I copied and pasted this from my website, and failed to catch that and change it.

Short answer: It's too early in the morning....

Deuces Wild 2010 - July 10th (Sunday only) - Trinity Links and Highland Park

Date change: The majority of my team will be playing Indiana State on Saturday. So, I've turned this into a one-day tournament on Sunday, July 10th. The players are to meet at Trinity by hole 1. Both courses are within a few miles of each other. Pros/Advanced will play Blue tees at Highland first, then the long tees at Trinity. The rest of the Ams will play Shorts at Trinity first, then the white tees at Highland for the second round.

AM/Pro C-tier tournament. One 18+ hole round at Highland, and one 18+ hole round at Trinity for a total of 36+ holes in this tournament. Special player pack prize awarded to the player with the most deuces over both courses in each division. Minimum 3 players in each division.

Please select which division you intend to play in. Note that ranked PDGA members cannot play in a division lower than where they are ranked.

Pre-registration is available online until 7pm the Saturday before the tournament, and in person at the store (1706 W. Jefferson St, Joliet, IL) until close of business that same Saturday. We are strongly encouraging pre-registration this year. We will also have registration available the day of the tournament between 7am-9am at Trinity Links, but it will be $10 extra. Please help us smooth the process out by pre-registering. Our thanks in advance to everyone who pre-registers!

Tentative Schedule:

Sunday:

Pro Open/Advanced: Highland Blues first round, Trinity Longs second round

All other Ams: Trinity Shorts first round, Highland Whites second round.

Players meeting at approx. 9:15am at Trinity, and tee off at approx. 9:30am (Trinity) & 10:00am (Highland).

Pre-registration is available here: http://www.acesandchains.com/node/441

A lot of thank yous for this one.....

Thanks to Mike Kursell for the great artwork for the tournament stamp, and for making scorecards for the tournament.....both of which received a very favorable response from the players. This guy is an amazing artist!

A big thanks to Cory Clements for helping with registration, scoring, and all the things he usually does on tournament day. He also stayed late on Friday getting all the leaderboard cards ready. As if that wasn't enough, he took the lead on Sunday, and let me go play in Rec. Had a blast getting my butt kicked by all the Rec players.......so thanks for that Cory! Lol.

Jason Riley was there to help with the leaderboard as always. What can I say.....consistency is priceless. Thanks Jay!

Thanks to Larry Pennuto for helping with the scoring, and running the video camera. Can't wait to see what the footage looks like...

A big thanks to Dan Pastore for coming out and bringing some CTPs for the players. He also let players try out his (soon to be released?) Screamer disc during lunch. Dan runs ABC discs, a local disc company from Sycamore, IL. If you haven't checked out his discs yet, try one out. We have the money putters in, and I'll be putting drivers on the shelf this week.

Thanks to Frank Grimes for stopping by to say hi. It was good to see you, and I appreciated the special trip you made to see how the tournament was going.

Thanks to Tim for bringing out the hot dog stand again. Tims a great guy. If you see his stand at a disc golf course near you, stop by to say hi and get a great burger or dog.

There were other volunteers who helped as well, like Jacob Burton, Jon Boster, Kaylee Barbosa, Ken Loeffler, and I'm sure I missed a few. My thanks to everyone who helped make the tournament run smoothly.

Fixed. Thanks for the heads up!

Yes, you are correct. Players are to meet by hole 1 at Westpark.
