Probably just means that the first person who found it kept it until recently, when they lost it.

I have had several discs returned to me after they were lost for more than a year. It's wierd, but it happens.

Hey DP,

I take it all back man. That's pretty crappy. Nothing like taunting you with your lost disc to add insult to injury right?

I love the idea of the names on the holes. I'd really like to see a person/player take "ownership" of a hole. Each person can find their own way to make it theirs, whether it be interesting touches along the way, like a custom path, or signage, adding a broom to the tee box. There are a lot of ways to make a hole yours without impeding the path of the disk. I once spoke to Frank about using the rocks he dug up at Channahon to make some interesting rock formations on one of the holes. Obviously, it would have to be done in good taste, and not impede the game. Other players will have other interesting ideas that I haven't thought of. But, my thought is that by allowing someone to take ownership of a hole at a course will encourage them to keep it clean and in top shape. This lowers the burden on some of the great people who now take care of way too much. Doing too much will wear on you after a while, and I would rather take the burden off of someone then to let them burn out and lose their help forever.

Plus, it would just add a ton of personality to a course if each hole was improved by a different player who took it seriously.

I just had to get back on here and mention how our discussion went. I caught up with Frank at Channahon yesterday. As usual, he was out working hard on the course. (Does this guy ever stop working?) Though he was busy with a lot of different people pulling him one way or another, he stopped and took the time to talk with me about everything.

I walked away very impressed. He was cordial, and understanding. He listened to everything I had to say and I could tell that he considered my words. I think we hashed everything out pretty well. I believe I have also misconstrued some things between us in the past, and that was my mistake.

I'm sure we'll have disagreements in the future, but knowing that I can approach him about a disagreement, and have a pleasant and intelligent discussion about it is a great thing. Not very many people handle a discussion like that in a positive way.

So I just wanted to say thanks, and kudos to you Frank. My respect for you went up another notch, if that's even possible.

Sincerely,
Patrick.

Jesse,

I can bring a practice basket. It's nothing special, certainly not tournament quality, but I'll bring it.

Patrick.

Frank,

I appreciate your measured response. I'm very glad that we can have a discussion about this without starting a war on the message board. That is not my intent either.

Honestly, I was hurt by some of what you said in your first post. It bothered me. I wanted to post about the positive experience I had running the clinic. And now, this whole post just leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

I'd like to take this discussion off board and talk to you in person about it. That way, we can clear the air and hopefully avoid any further issues of this kind. I'll try to get in touch with you soon. At the very latest, we can talk at the dbls party on Saturday.

My thanks, and respect as always,
Patrick.

Frank,

Yes, I understand that Frank. You have posted that elsewhere and we have all read it. I'm certainly not condoning that, and I don't like that it happened.

That does not mean, however, that I can't, or won't tell everyone if/when Jon does something good for the disc golf community. And I think it is a bad strategy to chime in here to make sure that you ruin any credit that he gets for helping me out with this clinic. For the record, I was in a bind after one instructor cancelled. If Jon had not been willing to volunteer with less than 24 hours notice, I would have had to run the clinic myself, with no experience doing so. Are you of the opinion that he should never be allowed to do any good for the community since that happened? Or is it just that you won't allow him to take credit for anything until he makes that right?

In either case, I would appreciate it if you would keep your negativity out of my positive posts. There is no reason for you to be pissing in my cornflakes here. Further, the tone of your post makes it sound as if I have, by extension, insulted you in some way by posting that. I take exception to that, and will defend my right to post here about the positive things that happen in the disc golf community.

I thought that you of all people would have respect for that.

Let's put this in a little perspective shall we?

I ran a disc golf clinic to help teach some young kids how to play disc golf and introduce them to the sport. This is supposed to be a good thing. I post about it here in a positive manner. And, as you taught me so well, I gave credit to the person who helped me out. The response I get from you is right there for everyone to read.

Now I ask you, was my post the proper forum for you to say that? How am I supposed to feel after reading that?

Or should you have respected the good I am trying to do in the community and left your negative comments for another day and another place where it would be more appropriate?

I know that a lot of people are going to side with you because of the great body of work you have done helping out with course prep and just a boat load of other great things for the community. Channahon is a beautiful course and much of that is a direct result of all your hard work. I also know that you are always there when J-town needs help with putting in concrete, or getting Highland ready for the tournament. I too am thankful for all the work that you have done. I am just asking that you respect my work in the community as well. And I don't think your post does that.....

respectfully,
Patrick

I just wanted to officially thank Jon Boster for agreeing to help teach this clinic on short notice. I know he is unlikely to see this post, but others will. And I owe him thanks for being there to help me when I needed it.

The clinic went very well. The kids loved it, and by the end, all of the adults present wanted a go at it as well.

Thanks Ben. Also, my apologies for mispronouncing your last name. I found out how it's pronounced after we did the announcing. I'll get it right next time.

Footage was thanks to Jon Boster. I was actually playing in the Novice division that day.

We're going to try to keep getting footage of tournaments going forward. I have a really nice tripod now, so anything we tape from here on out will be nice and stable.

Kev,

Jon and I did one of these clinics recently, and it went over very well. I would be more than happy to help out.

Vibram also sent me a box of putters to give away at the clinic, and quite frankly, they sent me way too many! Lol. So, I have extras that we can give away at any future clinic. I also have a number of DX drivers set aside now for that purpose that the participants can borrow for the duration of the clinic. They are gazelles, cheetahs, and 150 valks.

Shoot me an email at arenahobbies@yahoo.com and we can talk more about it.

Just wanted to say that I had a blast Saturday, and a big thanks to Jesse, Darrin, Jason, Mike, Gary, Frank, and everyone else involved. It was a very smoothly run tournament. Great job guys!

While I'm at it, thanks for running the J-town doubles every week. While it's easier than a tournament, it's still a ton of work. And running it week in and week out without a break all spring/summer is amazing to me. I know a lot of players don't say much about it, but we all appreciate it!

I saw it a few days ago too. Looks fantastic. You can tell that Jason went the extra mile to make it look good. Great font, nice job on the color scheme. Looks really cool.

Lost & Found / Lost Tie Dye Boss at Channahon
« on: September 21, 2010, 05:43:22 AM »
I lost my tie dye Boss at Channahon yesterday. I think it was somewhere between hole 10 and hole 13. Threw an extra disc and forgot to pick up the Boss.

As usual, I will offer a disc in return if you find it. I'll be at the Channahon Classic on Saturday, or you call me at 815-993-DISC (3472) if you find it.

Thanks, Patrick.

Sorry Barcas, but this is exactly what I disagree with when it comes to lost discs. Instead of offering a "punch in the face" for not returning it, how about offering a reward for it's return?

So many discs get lost and never returned. We need to encourage players to return discs.

Assuming that they kept it on purpose and threatening them with bodily harm is probably not going to be constructive.

If I see someone on the course with your disc, I will offer them one of mine in return and then I'll track you down to give it back to you. Now, if someone comes up to me and punches me in the face, I'm going to owe you the same in return.    ;)
