Courses / West Park clean up day!
« on: August 13, 2012, 11:31:45 AM »
Sunday, August 19th, from 8am-12noon.

Please come out and help clean up West Park. Garbage bags and cooler with drinks will be available by the pavillion on hole 8. Any help you can provide would be much appreciated. We're just looking to bag up as much trash off the course as possible. With a good group, it shouldn't take very long to do. We've arranged to have the park district pick up all the garbage bags on Monday.

We'll also be mowing the green for the first temp hole, and putting in all the OB lines for the tournament on the 25th and 26th. So, come out and help us clean up, and then you can practice the gauntlet of OBs from holes 6 thru 11. OB lines, tee boxes, and basket locations will also be marked for the 3 temp holes.

Leagues & Tourneys / The Wild West - Aug 25th & 26th
« on: August 06, 2012, 08:19:28 AM »
Am-B/Pro-C PDGA sanctioned tournament

Two 27 hole rounds at Westpark, in Joliet, IL. (3 temp holes)

Westpark is one of the most popular courses in the Joliet area. Hole 2 is an easy shot down from the top of the ridge to the basket below, while hole 11, The Green Mile, is a long shot with a fairway that narrows significantly from the halfway point to the pin. The course plays thru mature oaks. Tee pads are natural.

The current plan is to add the same 3 temp holes between 8 and 10 that we added for Chain Reaction. Each year, we will try to add something to put the "wild" in The Wild West. This year, we will be adding some unique OB lines from holes 6 thru 11, including the temp holes. The current plan is to change hole 11 (The Green Mile) into "Three Mile Island", a monster hole with an island green, and two large islands in the fairway forcing you to plan your landing spot.

Pre-registration is highly encouraged. By pre-registering, you help us run a smoother tournament. You can pre-register at the shop (1706 W. Jefferson St), or online at: http://www.acesandchains.com/node/791

Day of Registration (if spots are available) and Check-In will be between 8am-9am both days. Please check in when you get there. There will be no late fee for "day of" registration.

Players meeting will be held at 9:15am. Tee off at approx. 9:30am. Tournament headquarters will be in the pavillion above hole 8. The pavillion is off Wheeler Ave.

Tentative division schedule:

Saturday:

Advanced
Recreational
All Am Masters divisions
All Women's divisions
All Jr.s

Sunday:

Pro Open
All Open Masters
Intermediate
Novice

Tournament fee is $35 if you are a current PDGA member, or $45 if you are not a member. $2 Ace, and $3 CTP funds. And, if paying online, or in the shop by credit card, there is a $2 processing fee. All cash registrations do not pay the processing fee.

This is the last Aces and Chains PDGA Tournament of the year, and your last chance to add points to your total toward qualifying for the AC Finals.

Thank You's / Aaron Studer
« on: June 19, 2012, 09:55:39 AM »
I'd also like to give a special thanks to Aaron Studer for getting several hole sponsors for the Chain Reaction tournament. He got a sponsorship from Fast Printing of Joliet, and Lety's Bar. Thanks Aaron!

Fast Printing is where I get the posters printed at, and they are always on time with a quality product. Not to mention that the owner is a disc golfer.

Lety's - Go to Lety's bar and grill and say "it's 5 oclock somewhere" and get your second beer free.

Equipment / Blizzards melt!
« on: June 08, 2012, 09:39:44 AM »
It's ironic, but true. If you leave blizzard plastic in a hot car this summer, you will not be happy with the results. Blizzard plastic is effected by the heat more than most plastics. I have already had one customer who lost a few discs to the heat. The flight plates warped from the heat.

Keep your plastic safe in the trunk and it's less likely to get hot enough to warp. A side benefit is that thieves have less reason to break into your car (no discs in the back seat to steal)

Leagues & Tourneys / Chain Reaction - June 16th - Ams only B-Tier
« on: May 21, 2012, 12:02:12 PM »
B-Tier Amatuer Only Tournament at West Park on June 16th.

This event will be Pre-Registration ONLY. There will be no day of registration at the course. (This event will fill during pre-reg anyway.) Pre-Registration will close Thursday, June 14th at 7pm. Pre-register at: http://www.acesandchains.com/node/792

There will be no "check-in." Hole assignments will be posted on the Aces and Chains website by 5pm Friday (Probably earlier). Or check the leaderboard when you get to the course. First player on the card is responsible for picking up the scorecard.

No players meeting. OB is detailed below, and will also be on your scorecards. Any questions prior to the start of play, please see the TD, Patrick Johnson. The two minute warning (two blasts) will sound at 9am, and play will begin on a single horn blast at 9:02am. Players are responsible for getting to their tees on time for the start of play. Late players will be penalized according to the rules.

OB:

Water: Surrounded by water in the creek that runs by holes 1,2,3,5,11,15,16. If you are in the creek surrounded by water (regardless of what hole you are throwing), you are OB.

Pavement: Any pavement on, or around the course is OB. If the pavement has a cement curb and gutter, the cement curb and gutter are considered IN BOUNDS. This provides an easy to determine and definitive line for OB. This includes all paved paths (like hole 10) or unused parking lots (like hole 4).

Out of the park: If you are out of the park, you are OB. Over the fence on 2,4,6,& 8 is OB. Over the road on 13,16,17,18,19,21,22, & 24 is OB.

Hole 11: Over the creek to the left is OB.

Hole 21& 22: It is possible on both of these holes to be over the street and still in the park. However, to prevent any confusion, over the street on these two holes is STILL OB.

We'll probably add some temp holes as well, and when we get that solidified, I'll post it here.

This is a new format we are going to test at Chain Reaction. It should make for a more pleasant experience without the required check in (and long lines.)

TD Headquarters will be at the pavillion above hole 8. We will still be there in the morning, just like usual, to answer any questions, or handle any issues.

Tournament fee is $37 including the $2 online reg fee, + $10 if you are not a current PDGA member.

Leagues & Tourneys / AC Finals Cup reminder
« on: March 19, 2012, 06:34:43 AM »
We'll be doing the AC Finals Cup at the end of the season again this year. PDGA tournament points for each Aces and Chains tournament you place at this year total up with the top 16 in each of the 5 main divisions duking it out for bragging rights (and the cash pot.)

We'll be giving it more structure this year, with a match on each weekend (instead of requiring the players to contact each other to set up their matches.) Play continues for up to four weekends (one match each weekend) until the winner of the division is determined.

First place in each division wins the cash pot (all entry fees for the division) and gets their name added to the perpetual trophy in the shop.

C-tier tournament.

I'm very happy to annouce that there's a tournament in Mokena this year! This will be the first PDGA sanctioned tournament at Mokena since Illinois State in 2007. My thanks to Bruce for getting his foot in the door, and to Mary Beth @ Mokena for being a class act.

The Oaks is a fabulous course, with mature oak trees, and grass fairways. Three tight technical holes thru the woods add a little variety. With a total of 27 holes in all, it provides both challenge, and beauty. This course was featured in Flying Disc Magazine.

There is a $2 per person course fee for this tournament that goes directly to the Mokena Park District. It is already added in to the tournament fee.

Pre-registration is highly encouraged. By pre-registering, you help us run a smoother tournament. Pre-register at: http://www.acesandchains.com/node/793

Day of Registration (if spots are available) and Check-In will be between 8am-9am both days. Please check in when you get there.

Players meeting will be held at 9:15am. Tee off at approx. 9:40am. Tournament headquarters will be at the pavilion by the baseball fields. Instead of going in the main park entrance, use Mokena St. and proceed to the parking lot at the end.

Tentative division schedule:

Saturday:

Recreational
Novice
All Am Masters divisions
All Women's divisions
All Jr.s

Sunday:

Leagues & Tourneys / Would you play a tournament on Fathers Day?
« on: January 27, 2012, 05:46:04 AM »
Chain Reaction has been bumped from it's preferred spot, and I'm looking at spots to put it in. The best spot appears to be June 16 & 17th.......except that Fathers Day is on the 17th.

So, I'd like to hear from everyone.....would you play a tournament on Fathers Day?

If we do this, we'll come up with some ideas to make it special for Fathers Day.

Leagues & Tourneys / Mini long drive competition
« on: August 11, 2011, 09:14:42 AM »
Mini driving competition:

As part of the Wild West experience, I will be running a mini driving contest during the lunch break. Let's see who can drive their mini the farthest. Bring your favorite mini! Or, I will have some excellent driving mini's available for purchase if you don't have one that's suitable. One drive is included in your registration fee. Extra drives can be purchased for $2, or 3 for $5. All money from the extra drives purchased will go into the pot. May the longest drive win.

$2 will be taken out of every entry fee and put into a pot for the longest drive with a mini. As always, Am's will be paid in funny money, and Pro's will be paid in cash.

The contest will be held on the green mile (hole #11). All mini's must stay in the fairway or be disqualified. Any mini that comes to rest in or beyond the weeds on either side of the fairway is considered OB and cannot win. I'll take a look at the fairway before the contest starts and make any adjustments necessary for a fair contest. I will be the sole judge and jury regarding OB, unless I appoint someone to run the driving contest, in which case, that person shall be sole judge and jury.

I would like to get a few volunteers to help out with the mini driving contest. I'd like a few runners to bring mini's back to the tee box and to generally help out with the contest. If you are willing to volunteer, please PM me.

Leagues & Tourneys / August 27th & 28th - The Wild West
« on: August 04, 2011, 07:41:59 AM »
New incentive to pre-register:

I'm going to try something new to encourage pre-registration. I will be adding at least 3 free CTPs for everyone who pre-registers. If I get a lot of pre-registrations, I'll add more. I have some beautiful Supercolor Buzzz's and Roc +'s that I will donate for CTPs. Mike Kursell's "Zombie Bandit" artwork is on these, and they came out great. That's a $25 value for each FREE CTP. I may add a shirt or two if I do more than three CTPs.

So, pre-register and have even more fun!

Now, here's the official info:

West Park - August 27th & 28th - The Wild West 2011

Pre-registration is available here: http://www.acesandchains.com/node/442

Pre-registration is available until 8pm the Friday before the tournament, both at the shop (1706 W. Jefferson St., Joliet, IL) and online at the link above. Registration the day of the tournament is available from 8am-9am with a $5 walk up fee.

We are strongly encouraging pre-registration this year. We will also have registration available the day of the tournament between 7am-9am at Trinity Links, but it will be $10 extra. Courses / Channahon #11
« on: June 14, 2011, 09:43:22 AM »
That new green on #11 at Channahon is starting to look mighty nice!

And was that a new tree behind tee box #3, or was that there all along? You've done so much work this year Frank, that I'm beginning to think I'm seeing old things as new.........

Wish that worked for you and I.  Lol.

Leagues & Tourneys / AC Finals Match Play 2011
« on: June 10, 2011, 10:13:59 AM »
Update:Points update for each division is at the end of this thread. List of players invited, and online signup is available here: http://www.acesandchains.com/node/1

We'll be running a special match play tournament (probably in September) from the shop this year. To qualify, you must be one of the top 16 in points earned at an Aces and Chains tournament this year in one of the main 5 divisions (Novice, Rec, Int, Adv, and Open). Points add up from each Aces and Chains tournament you play in. (other divisions - see below....I haven't left you out.)

If you qualify, you will be invited to play in the match play tournament in your division. This will be a single elimination (ie: sudden death) tournament. Entry fee will be $10. The winner in each division will get the cash, and their name engraved on a trophy/plaque that will be permanently hung in the shop. Each year, a new winner will be added to the same trophy/plaque.

Divisions other than the main 5 will still be able to participate. The number of entrants in each division will be based on the number of players who have earned points in that division. This will be determined after The Wild West 2011. Winners from divisions other than the main 5 will get the cash (entry fees for the AC Finals from their division), and a small trophy to take home.

This is meant to be a thank you to all the players who come out to play in an Aces and Chains tournament this year. It will be non-sanctioned, and all entry fees go straight back out as cash prizes. Hopefully, this will add an extra element of fun and competition to the tournaments this year.
