WEEK 8 - May 25, 2011

First Half #8
West Park - Joliet, Illinois
21 Holes - Short Tees - Par 63

CONDITIONS
The night started out at around 80 degrees, sunny and humid. It ended with rain and temps cooling off into the mid 50s.Earlier in the day a massive rain storm left holes 2-4 and 11 under water. Witnesses said the creek looked like a raging river. Most water subsided when league started but there was still too much standing water on holes 2-4 to allow playing them. Plus the stairs leading to hole 2 were treacherous. So after hole 1 we played the old hole 5 and continued with the rest of the course. Old fives tee pad was on top of the hill near hole 12s basket. Most of tee pads were very muddy and slick which made the course tougher.
We ended up dodging the later storm that rolled in around 8:00 p.m., but we did get a little wet. Another tough doubles night.

Thanks to Brew & Grow Bolingbrook & Jake Riley for donating a t-shirt for a ctp.

I’m not sure what schedule your looking at because according to what I have it says May 25. Either way it’s on Wednesday May 25. Our league is always on Wednesday even if the dates say differently.

Not the schedule, its just the left sidebar on the J-town website.  Schedule is probably good but it clearly says "5/27 5:30pm West Park" on the website.  Thanks for the heads up.

It's fixed.  Thanks!

Darrin's fault!

WEEK 7 - May 18, 2011
First Half #7
Community Park - Channahon, Illinois
18 Holes - Short Tees - Par 54
Conditions:  Low 60s, Cloudy, Slight Drizzle looked like a gloomy day to start. It felt like it got warmer throughout the night, not much wind and the sun peaked out a few times. There were a couple of slick tee pads that are hidden in the shade. The course was almost completely dry and in immaculate shape. It turned out to be a perfect night for disc golf on a beautifully maintained course.

Thanks to Brew & Grow Bolingbrook & Jake Riley for donating a t-shirt for a ctp.

Quick question, why does the schedule say 5/27/11 at West Park?  Is that a typo because by my calculation it should be 5/25 at West.  Please let me know if league for next week has been changed to Friday.

I’m not sure what schedule your looking at because according to what I have it says May 25. Either way it’s on Wednesday May 25. Our league is always on Wednesday even if the dates say differently.

WEEK 6 - May 11, 2011
First Half #6
Trinity Links - Lockport, Illinois
18 Holes - Short Tees - Par 54

CONDITIONS
Temp: Low 90s and sunny to start. The course was almost completely dry and in great shape. With around 5 or 6 holes left a massive storm came through with high winds and substantial downpours. Most players toughen it out but some took off. I guess I can’t blame them  for leaving. The temperature dropped to the high 60s but it felt much colder with soaked clothes. It was a perfect start with a miserable ending.

WEEK 4 - April 27, 2011
First Half #4
Community Park - Channahon, Illinois
18 Holes - Short Tees - Par 54 Did not play hole #6 because the basket was surrounded by a foot of water. Put in temp hole after hole 18 called “The Monk” hole. A 150 footer by baseball field.
Conditions:  Temp: mid 50s, cloudy to start, low 50s and a little windy at the end. The course has a lot of standing water and of course a ton of mud. Another cold, wet and raw night for disc golf.

Looking on the bright side, Paco Grimes continues the course beautification transformation. There were tons of new trees planted, new benches that are completed and new benches in the works. There are way too many things going on at this course for one set of eyes to catch. I can’t wait to come back.

Thanks Riphizer for bringing their new basket for the temp hole. The basket looks and catches great.
It was nice to see Matt Ogg up on crutches and back hanging with the league.

Thanks Paco Grimes for sorting the money. Having this done before we come in is a huge relief for us.

They end up splitting 50 bucks and receive that extra point. The teams shot rounds of 43 (-11).

Yes! I love this stuff! Two good buddies battling over a disc golf issue and then the inevitable happens. Politics rears its head and takes control over their minds. That was entertaining. You guys should run for some type of office so you can release all that stuff built up inside. Don’t worry we still love you guys.
What would we do without you.

My opinion is I think the rule is harsh for the players who take care of their habit’s mess. At any Worlds level I think majority of the players know to pick-up after themselves and most are courteous to where their smoke blows.

PDGA / Worlds Smoking Ban
« on: April 22, 2011, 07:19:17 AM »
http://www.pdga.com/worlds-smoking-ban

Smoking has been banned during competition at both the 2011 PDGA Professional and Amateur Disc Golf World Championships. Players will not be permitted to smoke from the start of play until the player’s scorecard has been submitted. Smoking of any kind during competition could result in immediate disqualification and further disciplinary action as stated in the PDGA Competition Manual, Section 3.3 Player Misconduct.

After many months of contemplation, In January 2011 the PDGA Board made the decision to restrict smoking during both the 2011 PDGA Pro World Championships in Santa Cruz CA and the 2011 PDGA Amateur & Junior World Championships in Rochester NY. The Board was well aware of the potential ramifications of this decision and how others have addressed this issue, and this board (as has past boards) debated this issue for some time before making this decision for 2011.The board has not made any decisions on a long term smoking policy for our major events. With the 2011 PDGA Pro Worlds in Santa Cruz requiring a smoking ban due to the drought conditions in California, the Board felt this was the opportune time to test the waters on the impact of a smoking ban at our two (2) most visible and public events – the PDGA World Championships.

We will evaluate the effects of this policy for the future at our 2011 Fall Summit, and we welcome your comments and suggestions.

ON BEHALF OF THE 2011 PDGA BOARD OF DIRECTORS

Dave “Nez” Nesbitt

PDGA Commissioner & Board President
