Courses / The Oaks, Mokena
« on: September 20, 2011, 07:32:25 AM »
I’ve talked with Mary Beth Windberg the new Superintendent of Recreation at the Mokena Park District. She gave us the okay for our doubles league to return to The Oaks next year. She’s an extremely nice lady who wants to rebuild relationships with the disc community especially with the people who want to run tournaments and leagues.

PDGA / PDGA Logo Contest
« on: August 30, 2011, 05:26:36 AM »
http://www.pdga.com/logo-contest-0

Greetings all disc golfing graphic artists! It’s time to start thinking about the year ahead. The PDGA is now soliciting designs for the 2012 Ace Club and Birdie Club logos. Compensation in kind for the winning design will be a 2012 Ace or Birdie Club membership plus the 2011 Pro Worlds DVD. (A larger package will be provided if the same person submits more than one winning logo design).

Designs should include the following:

    * PDGA logo colors (green = PMS 334, blue = PMS 653)
    * The words "2012 PDGA Ace (or Birdie) Club"
    * Ace or Birdie theme, for example Ace could be a disc tracking from far away and slamming chains, and Birdie could be a disc under a basket with a cardinal or other bird sitting on top of the basket singing.

Please submit all logos in vector format (.eps). If submitted in raster format (.tif, .jpg), logos must be at least 300 dpi in density and 1200x1200 dpi. All logos should also be presented in both color and black/white versions, and must work well for hotstamping on discs in both 4 color process and black and white.

The PDGA will retain copyright to all winning designs. Deadline for design submission: September 11th. For more info please contact Marcy Borelli at the PDGA office (706) 261-6342 or email office@pdga.com.

In Memory Of... / “Steady” Ed Headrick #001
« on: August 05, 2011, 07:30:19 AM »
 “Steady” Ed Headrick Obituary
June 28, 1924 — August 12, 2002.
Steady Ed the Founder of Disc Golf

The inventor of the modern-day Frisbee may be gone, but his spirit and his ashes will continue to fly high into the great blue yonder.

“Steady” Ed Headrick, died in his sleep early Monday, August 12, 2002, at his home in La Selva Beach. He was 78.

No services were planned, but there was an open house and a party to celebrate his life.

Headrick, who had high blood pressure, had suffered two strokes while attending the Professional Disc Golf Association 2002 Amateur World Championships in Miami.

The strokes left him paralyzed on his left side and weak on the right. Still, he had remained in high spirits even signing autographs on Frisbees from his bed at a Miami hospital. He returned home to California Aug. 6 after doctors determined that physical therapy would not aid his recovery and that his condition would continue to deteriorate.

Headrick’s ashes are molded into a limited number of memorial flying discs. A memorial fund has been be created by the family that was used to establish and found “The Ed Headrick Memorial Museum”.

“The Ed Headrick Memorial Museum”, is home to the Disc Golf Hall of Fame, and showcases many historical items from the early days of our sport.
