2012 J-Town tags will be available.

Bring some Discontinuum tags with you, I'm sure some of our members want to get one.

PDGA: The Results of Disc Golf’s Snow Blown II in Rockport, Illinois
By K.C. Dermody, Yahoo! Contributor Network
Dec 13, 4:21 pm EST

The Snow Blown II took place in Rockport, Illinois at the Trinity Links Disc Golf Course on Saturday, December 10, 2011. The course has a wide variety of holes and is moderately wooded with flat terrain, including some great water holes. This PDGA sanctioned C-Tier event had 26 disc golfers in the competition, and it was Allen Hermosillo of Blue Island, Illinois, who was crowned champion of the Open division with a score of 9-under par.

This was Hermosillo's 40th tournament of the year, and he's had several wins, including the Illinois State Disc Golf Championships, the Iron Lion Open, the South Bend Clover Classic and the HOMIE Fall Celebration.

Following Hermosillo in second place, was Tom Matesevac of Minooka, Illinois, with a score of 5-under par. Matesevac has played in quite a few events in 2011 himself, and has had several victories, including the Mokena Big D Doubles and the BNDGC First Flight.

In a tie for third place, was Chris Brenholtz of Downers Grove, Illinois and Clayton Drake of Metropolis, Illinois, both scoring 3-under par. Brenholtz had a win at the Whet Up or Shut Up Throwdown in June, and Drake had a second place finish just behind Brenoltz in the same tournament, and a win in the Advanced division at the Bowling Green Blast in March.

Bryan Marcott of New Lenox, Illinois, took fifth place with a score of 1-under par. He had a win back in April at the Spring Opener. Finally, it was Matt Coyne of Plainfield, Illinois in sixth place with a score of 9-over par.

Aaron Scott of Yorkville, Illinois was the winner of the Advanced division, scoring 3-under par. Scott had a second place finish in the same division at the Fox Valley Metro Invitational in September. Randy Moore of Oswego, Illinois followed Scott in second place, with a score of 1-under par, and at third place in the Advanced division was Jon Boster of Joliet, Illinois, scoring 1-over par.

The Intermediate division win went to Aaron Meyer of Kaukauna, Wisconsin, with a score of 2-under par, and Jason Rocks of Woodridge, Illinois, followed at just a stroke behind, with a score of 1-under par, while Eric Willhite of Glen Ellyn had a third place finish, scoring 3-over par.

The Recreational division win went to James LoPresti of Homer Glen, Illinois with a score of 1-under par. LoPresti had a win in the Novice division at the Joliet Disc Golf Championship in October.

Congratulations to all the winners and competitors on a great game of disc golf!

Yeah, and LoPresti won the Rec division with a 921 player rating from November. In fact all of his rated rounds are over 900.

That was James LoPresti's third PDGA tournament ever and the rating system does not hold true until you have finished four full tournaments. dropping the lowest rated round and highest rated round.  The next tournament he will be playing Intermediate if his rating holds up.  Also until the official results are in and updated since rec and Intermediate played two rounds from the shorts the ratings will be a little obscured.  According to the PDGA guidelines everyone played in the correct division or I would have heard about it from Marcy the Hammer at the PDGA office.

I just saw this. Thor, your comments about the rating system are not accurate. There is no minimum number of tournaments, high rated rounds are never dropped, and unfortunately the PDGA office does nothing if someone plays in the wrong division unless some complains about it. LoPresti was rated 921 as of 11/22/11. If he was allowed to play Rec at your tournament, that was a mistake and should not have occurred.

While the TD is generally held responsible by the players to enforce division guidelines and a good TD does his best to enforce them to keep his players happy, the responsibility for a player playing in the correct division rests solely on the player's shoulders (see the competition manual section 2.1). If someone complains to the PDGA about a player playing in the wrong division, it is will be the player that receives the disciplinary action.

Generally what you said would be correct but because he just signed up for the PDGA and that was his first tournament as a PDGA member he can play what ever division he wishes.  You are right the TD should monitor that and I did, I asked the question and the response I put down was the answer I got.  I am not gonna defend that answer because every time you ask a question you tend to get a different answer, but that is what I was told and that is why I let him play that division.  now that he is a full member though he will be required to play in the division his rating has him at.  during the round I looked up every player and if they are current or not and he was the only one out of his division with his rating.  But I asked the guy at the PDGA number on Friday and that was the answer I got.  It was the first time this situation ever presented itself at a tournament I ran and I just went with the answer I was given.  I am not trying to sound offense if this seems like I am arguing and that could have been 100% the wrong decision but I didn't know what else to do besides ask.  I will absolutely keep this in the back of my head in the future and make sure I ask several different people the correct way to play it out.  It was a local tournament thrown together at the last minute for some last chance points and I believe that was James 3rd tournament ever and the first as a PDGA member.. unless the Joliet Championships counts when he signed up and played rec with a 900 plus players rating.  I guess I just followed suit but I did ask and it did not go unnoticed.  I appreciate your input though, you have been around a lot longer then me and am always looking to do things right.
Thanks

this was also included in an email I got from the PDGA about ratings... and to answer the question of they don't drop rounds.. they do but 1 out of every 50 or so

All rated rounds you have played and have been reported to the PDGA within 12 months of your most recently rated round will be included in the calculation. However, if any one of those ratings is either more than 100 points below your average rating or more than 2.5 standard deviations below your rating – whichever number is smaller – that round will not be included. That works out to about 1 in 50 rounds getting dropped. Rounds where you DNF (Do Not Finish) are never counted in your rating. The most recent 25% of your rounds get double weighted which slightly boosts your rating if you have been steadily improving. If a player has fewer than 8 rounds in the past 12 months, since their most recent round, then we’ll go back up to another 12 months until we find up to 8 rounds but never go back any farther than a total of 24 months.

if you can make sense of that... but again I am not trying to argue and I was also informed by a man sitting next to me who has been running touranemnts for 20 years to not defend my decision but make sure I learn from it... which I already have... thanks again for your input because it forces me to really research the rules and learn from my mistakes

Knowing how much work it is to TD events (and do them well), my intention is not to give you grief or criticize your decisions. I'm merely want to help educate and make sure misinformation is not floating out there.

btw The rating stuff I can make sense of, but that is because I've been following this for years back when more of the tidbits of the rating system were public.

Thanks for expending the effort to put on events. It's not an easy job.
