To date it seems I'm the lone ranger in getting donations for the Ice Bowl. Last year we had CTP's as a bonus n/c. This is a fundraiser for an organization that's helped people in our community for over 100 years. It's life blood depends on local donations. Everything I've collected will be raffled, with a $100.00 Grand Prize. I discussed this with Thor & he agrees. We feel that winning something is a bonus. My effort for this event started Thanksgiving, my son reminded me. I've driven countless miles & spent as many hours, not only to promote our club, but for a worthy cause. It will give you a better chance to win something in the raffle. It's around 40 right now. For those of you that disagree, beat the bushes, your efforts can be ctps. I want to give kudos to Dave K. & Scott Coyne. They overheard me asking for support, & came up to me & donated. Others like Matt Coyne & Shawn Harmon are always there, always. I'm disappointed in some & if the shoe fits, wear it. If you don't believe in the cause, believe in the club!!! Well.............that's two hours of my life!
I doubt that anyone how to get in touch with Dan. My hope is he reads our message board. His company made a generous donation for our fundraiser. The check was made out to J-Town disc golf & not to Morning Star Mission. He's lost to me & I hope he can be found. If I'm in the wrong spot Jason Poole will make it right. Let me know how I can meet up with you Dan.
Some years ago, I think 5, I was made aware about the Ice Bowls to help needy people. I thought how cool is that. What a statement that gives to the local community that disc golf is more than people out there playing with their pants half way down their butts. I was glad that the J-Town board agreed to have this fund raiser. It not only helps others, but says something about our club in a positive way & disc golf. Morning Star Mission has been in Joliet over a hundred years. Only 12% goes to administrative costs. That leaves 88% for programs. They don't get government aid & rely on donations. I'm asking for donations, even if it's $10.00. $2.05 cares for one person. They run a tight ship & cherish every $1.00 given. Playing in the tournament will also be helpful, a portion of the registration goes to the Mission. Another thing I discovered as of 01/14/11 they qualify to support displaced veterans along with skilled training. The first in the United States. Your support helps people that need help. Bums & freeloaders are not admitted. Tours are welcome to see what you're donating to. Like I've said, over 100 years & an icon for the Joliet area.
I don't Jason would want the credit but here's the story. I'm listing the Ice Bowl sponsors & gifts as I get them. Rather than make a new list every time I get sponsors, I'm modifying the current list. When I go in there it's a cluster f*#k. Notice below. The time it takes to make that readable is huge, if not forever. Jason made a spread sheet & instructed me how to use it. It's an extreme time saver. Thanks Jason!
If you don't know, league is at Channahon this week. I'm freed up today to work on the tees & can use some help. Get a hold of me, either call., post or personal message. Thanks
Ryan Barcas (Dr. Pepper) for shoveling the tees from the latest snow Monday night. I also want to pre thankyou for your offer for Friday. If something happens , like more snow, before Sunday, I'll be there early Sunday to get them cleaned up. Thanks Dr. Pepper.
I was working on the tees yesterday. What we have is light snow on top, crunchy snow in the middle & ice on the bottom. I was thinking about working on them after league today. I realize snow is in the foecast this week & I'll deal with that as needed.
I need you're addresses, I have receipts for each donation. I do this routinely so I don't get bogged down at the end. This is all passed on to the Mission so they can express their gratitude. Cash is the prime gift. For those who want to give a donation of $10.00 is helpful. A hundred people is $1,000.00.
If you're interested in the Ice Bowl you need to check every so often. What i did last year is made a new post& I think it may have been a little confusing & not neat. There will be one post & I'll edit it as the sponsors come in. I'll be cleaning up what's there now, the Sox, Cubs note & until I get the check from Blaine I'll erase that. I'm sure Blaine is good for it. It's extremely time consuming to edit it with the rows etc. Jason Poole might know what I'm talking about. Any way one post & it will be edited as the sponsors come.
At our last meeting we agreed to have our 2nd Ice Bowl, Feb. 5th 2011. Morning Star Mission is an impressive organization that supports the homeless & needy in the Joliet area. Many of us may not know what it's like to have no place to turn & the Mission picks them up. A tour of their work can be set up if your interested. Saturday, Feb 5th, 2011, is the tournamrnt date. Help support the down & out in our community. I think we were 12th or 14th last year in our donation.
Lockport is looking sweet. There are hole changes, chip spread around, general maintenance. It looks real nice. It's going to be interesting with how the water is going to affect #15. Good work guys!!!
