Lost & Found / Lost KC Pro 10X Teebird at Westpark - $20 Reward!
« on: July 15, 2010, 09:18:57 AM »
Hey guys,

My friend Bill Thornton lost his cream colored KC Pro 10X Teebird with a Florida stamp on it on the temp hole between 8 & 9 on Sunday during the tournament. It has his info on the back.

I'm offering a cash reward of $20 to anyone who returns this to me so I can return it to Bill.

Bill was a huge help to me at the Channahon tournament, and I'd like to pay him back by tracking down this disc for him.

Thanks,
Patrick.

I believe this has to do with the Pros actually playing Highland first while the Ams played Westpark first. When I initially put up the scores, this was not taken into consideration. After correcting the course layouts to show that Westpark is 25 holes, and that the Pros played Highland first while the Ams played Westpark first, the Ams ratings went down.

This should only be true for the rounds on Sunday.

I'm no ratings expert, but I did expect a drop in ratings for the Ams once I corrected the course layouts. It makes sense. Prior to the correction, you were probably being compared to the highest rated Pro to determine ratings. Afterward, you were probably compared to the highest rated Am.

At least, that's my take on it. But again, I'm no expert on ratings.

By the way, you still have the best rated round in the AMs at 981 for your -2 round at Highland. (Great round!)

There was an issue when I first put up the results. Westpark was still showing an 18 hole layout. I fixed that yesterday and made sure that the AMs and Pros were listed on the correct course layout for each round.

Do you guys still see an issue today?

Leagues & Tourneys / Trophies

Got the custom hardwood disc trophies in for Deuces Wild. They look sweet! Instead of Cherry wood, I had them made from Purpleheart, which is an exotic hardwood from South America I believe. It looks a lot like what it sounds like.....dark purple/brown wood that looks very rich.

I'll post some pictures if I get time.

Ace fund has been carried over from Chain Reaction:

Approx. $80 in the ace fund for Saturday
Approx. $100 in the ace fund for Sunday

The ace fund will not be carried over after Deuces Wild. If no one hits an ace, we will have a CTP playoff for the cash each day. Just to be clear, Saturdays (Jr, Rec, Adv) ace fund is a separate fund from Sundays (Nov, Int, Pro).

Great weekend to be a J-town club member! (ie: Don't forget about the J-town invitational on Friday!) 3 days of tournaments in one weekend......

Great practice for the Deuces Wild tournament this weekend......

;?)

That is correct. Pros play blue tees at Highland, longs at Westpark.

Adv (and all other Ams) play white tees at Highland, and short tees at Westpark.

I had considered making the Adv. division play the blue and the longs, but I thought that went a little contrary to the theme of the tournament. And, it's less confusing if all the Ams play from the same tees.

Thanks for asking though. Hopefully that clears it up for everyone.

Good to know!

I also love the Vibram fivefingers I have. It's almost like not having shoes on at all.

Please note that the custom wood trophies pictured above will be awarded for first place in MPO, Adv, Int, Rec, and Nov divisions only.

Just a couple of updates:

Pros will play the blue tees at Highland, and the long tees at Westpark.

Ams will play the white tees at Highland, and the short tees at Westpark.

Everyone meets at the pavillion above hole 8 at Westpark. Pros/Adv will have their first round at Highland after the players meeting (at Westpark), and second round after lunch at Westpark.

Where the rest of the Ams play their first round will be scheduled based on attendance. If possible, everyone will play their first round at Highland. If we need to split it up to allow more players to sign up, then we will schedule the rounds accordingly. This will all be determined the day of the tournament, prior to the players meeting.

There will only be one temp hole added - 8A at Westpark. This is the typical hole used to play between 8 and 9, starting at the pine trees with the pin tucked into the trees between 8 and 9s tee boxes. No temp holes will be added at Highland.

Courses / Re: West Park Tee Boxes
« on: June 30, 2010, 05:39:48 AM »
That would be an excellent idea. Westpark needs tee boxes badly, especially since it had the most traffic of any course in the area.

I think that most players on this forum would prefer to finish Highland (and take a much deserved break) before considering tee boxes for Westpark.

That being said, I can make a great case for putting in tee boxes at West whether you like the course or not. Obviously, the park needs them. Hole 8 comes to mind........it's uncomfortable doing any kind of run up even in good weather. And, for those of you who don't care about West, having concrete tees there will keep down the traffic at your other favorite courses.

For my part, just like Highland, I cannot do any of the back breaking labor required, but I'm happy to donate some funds toward tees at Westpark. But let's give the J-town boys a rest before asking anyone to tackle Westpark. They deserve it!

I would also like to give a big thanks to Frank Grimes for all his help. He took a lot of extra time to get the course ready during the week.

That's why we call it Frank's House.

As always, Channahon was a beauty and a challenge, and that's in large part to all of Frank's efforts to keep it that way.

I know that he did a lot of weed whacking, and spread a lot of mulch in the last few days leading up to the tournament. All this, and during trying times too. So, a big thanks goes out to Frank. When you see him out on the course, please take the time to stop and thank him for all his hard work.

And for those of you wondering why the 10 meter circles weren't up to Frank's standards, especially on hole 2, that's because I painted them. So don't blame Frank! Lol. It wasn't until hole 3 that I figured out the right way to hold onto the thing to get a nice circle.

I would also like to thank Ellen Macuiba and everyone at the Park District for working with me, and for the prep work that they did on the course as well.

Another thanks goes out to Scott Pitner for his advice, and for letting me hang around and help some at one of his tournaments so I could see how some of it's done first hand.

I'd also like to thank Ken Loeffler, Adam Gerencher, and Jason Riley for bringing out the temp baskets.

If I've forgotten anyone, I humbly apologize. It was a long weekend, and I'm still a bit frazzled. Getting out to play leagues tonight should help. See you there.

Results have been posted.

Thanks again to everyone who came out to participate. It was a great turn out for my first tournament, and I hope everyone had a good time.

Sundays round had a rough start with a torrential downpour for about 20 minutes at the beginning. But, like the warriors that you are, everyone kept playing. We were rewarded by a beautiful day by about 10am.

Saturday was blistering hot and humid, but the rain held off.

A big thanks to Bill, Cory, Jon, Jason P, Ray, Jason R, John, and everyone who lent a hand with registration, scoring, and hauling items up and down the hill. I really appreciate all your help.

I'd also like to give a big thanks to Dan Pastore for playing, friendly advice, and for donating some sweet ABC discs for an extra CTP hole.

Thanks to my wife Diane (not that she'll read this) for helping out and for putting up with me.

Lastly, thanks to the sponsors - Innova, Discraft, Vibram Discs, ABC Discs, and Celestine Salon and Spa in Darien.

That is fantastic! A heart felt thanks from this disc golfer as well.

I did get a chance to tee off from some of them, and they are perfect. Nice size and shape, and the grip is excellent.

Thanks to everyone who worked so hard to get these in!
