Title: Donations for J-Town Ice Bowl
Post by: Frankie on January 05, 2011, 03:50:49 AM
Some years ago, I think 5, I was made aware about the Ice Bowls to help needy people. I thought how cool is that. What a statement that gives to the local community that disc golf is more than people out there playing with their pants half way down their butts.
I was glad that the J-Town board agreed to have this fund raiser. It not only helps others, but says something about our club in a positive way & disc golf.
Morning Star Mission has been in Joliet over a hundred years. Only 12% goes to administrative costs. That leaves 88% for programs. They don't get government aid & rely on donations.
I'm asking for donations, even if it's $10.00. $2.05 cares for one person. They run a tight ship & cherish every $1.00 given. Playing in the tournament will also be helpful, a portion of the registration goes to the Mission.
Another thing I discovered as of 01/14/11 they qualify to support displaced veterans along with skilled training. The first in the United States. Your support helps people that need help. Bums & freeloaders are not admitted. Tours are welcome to see what you're donating to. Like I've said, over 100 years & an icon for the Joliet area.

The first thing on my mind is someone mentioned to me how they wanted J-Town to be an icon or a name brand, especially in our area. I wonder how you do that? My thinking is you do things in your local area. It may be a breakfast, or a fish fry. We're having an Ice Bowl.
I know we are noticed, & the Morning Star Mission is in appreciation & they speak good of us. I realize some are hurting & just getting by but some are not.  In my search for sponsors, not everyone that gave last year are able to give this year.
We have over 40 things to raffle & more coming, so I'm not looking for things to raffle, although nothing will be refused. See if you can come up with a little cash, even $10.00.
Thanks

I had another thought about getting donations. Some of you may live with your parents. Chances are good you're parents have heard about Morning Star Mission. Would drop a word about what we're doing & see if they'll donate something?

Another note. My philosophy of leadership is by example. It's been a history with me. I'm trying to make a statement about disc golf to our comunity, & for an icon in our community, Morning Star Mission. The funds already being raised should indicate the reputation Of the Mission. Business/ personal that give on a monthly basis, have donated.
Will you join me in a win, win deal we have? We promote the club, for a good cause,

Sincerely,
Frankie

Thank you Jeff Reardon. I received your donation today. I haven't thanked anyone else on our message board. It's kind of you to put out the effort, It's not that others don't. With the people I know they usually jump in here & there to help for what ever is going on at the time.  I don't know everyone & I don't recall you. If you know who I am, would you introduce yourself? If not I'll listen for your name at the Ice Bowl.

This thought came to me last night. I wake up numerous to take a leak & usually don't have a problem getting back to sleep. I was chilled, a side effect from the medication. So my mind was spinning & the Ice Bowl donations came to mind.
I'm wondering if we were brought up differently. Helping others was a natural thing to do. Some things that come to mind are people stuck on the road. I remember getting gas for someone that ran out or helping with a flat tire. If a woman was in trouble, the brakes smoked!
I'm saying after looking at the list of donations. The percentage of golfers giving is low. I guess we think differently. Of course you will help out by playing the tournament. It looks like it's going to be a tester.

Sorry for the delay, Frank.
As result of my 100/100 CTP at the Fox Valley Ice Bowl, I raised $63.00, so..
On behalf of the 5th Annual Jericho Lake Ice Bowl, I wiil donate $63 cash on Saturday.
See you there.
