Courses / Re: Concrete Tees for Highland
« on: May 14, 2010, 07:30:45 AM »
Darrin is asking for $150-200 from anyone who wants to sponsor a pad. $150 should cover most pads, but $200 will allow them to do the more difficult ones, or to pool the extra $50 from each donation to add even more tees.

Talk to Darrin at leagues for more info, or to sponsor a tee.

Thanks for the advice Frank. I've spoken with Scott, and several others. I'm looking to hear opinions from some of the J-Town players to see what everyone likes to get in their player pack. Do they like funny money (ie: pick your own players pack), or a tournament stamped item, or perhaps something I haven't thought of yet?

I'm leaning towards a "pick your own" players pack.

Anyone else have any opinions they would like to share?

I'm trying to decide what to put in the AM's players pack.....

I could put $10-15 of Ace card money to spend on plastic, etc.

Or I could do a select your own tournament stamped disc for a players pack (though this would eat into the prize money more.)

Am's are only $25 with PDGA number, so the players pack could significantly effect final prize money too.

What does everyone else think?

Equipment / Innova Discatcher Sport
« on: May 10, 2010, 05:04:24 AM »
Does anyone have the Innova Discatcher Sport? (as opposed to the Innova Discatcher Pro.)

I know it's approved by the PDGA, but I would like to hear some opinions on whether it's good enough to use as a temporary hole during tournaments.

Thanks,
Patrick.

This event is only $25 for amateurs if you are a PDGA member. Here is the info on the event in Channahon:

June 26th & 27th:

AM/Pro C-Tier tournament playing 2-18+ hole rounds for a total of 36+ holes. Extra holes may be added as needed. I should have enough baskets to have the usual 4 temp holes. Cash payout for Pros, $100 added to the Pro cash pot.

Channahon is one of the premier disc golf courses in the Joliet area. This is the best kept course in the area (Great job as always Frank!) Come out and enjoy the beauty, and the challenge of Channahon.

Divisions schedule is as follows:

Saturday:

Jr. divisions
Recreational
Advanced

Sunday:

Novice
Intermediate
Pro divisions

Registration will be open from 8am-9am both days. Players meeting at approx. 9:15am, and tee off at approx. 9:30am both days.

Pre-registration closes at 9pm on Friday, June 25th. Registration the day of the event is an additional $5.

Pre-registration is available at www.acesandchains.com

All divisions will play from the short tees for round one, and the long tees for round two.

I received the trophies yesterday, and they look fantastic! See below for a sneak peak at each trophy. I could only attach 4 images, so the advanced trophy is not pictured. But, you get the idea....

Thanks, Patrick.

I played a few of the holes on Monday. 18's tee box was muddy, but what else is new? 1-7 looked good. 8 was a little muddy too. All in all, not bad. I didn't play 10-15, so I don't have a report on those holes....

Frank,

My prayers are with you also!

If you need anything Frank, please let us know. If I can help pick up any slack on the course by organizing cleanup, or whatever, I'm there. Please feel free to delegate to the disc golf community. Everyone has the utmost respect for you, and we will have no trouble getting tons of volunteers to do any work on the course that you need done.

My father had Thyroid cancer a few years ago, and he is completely fine now. It is a scary thing, but you can beat it. Keep your head up and know that we are all pulling for you.

Patrick.

Lost & Found / Found - Ford keys at Highland Park

Some Ford keys were turned into my table at Highland Park on Monday. If anyone knows who they belong to, please contact me. Thanks, Patrick.

Thanks Mike!

Unfortunately, for reasons that don't need to be discussed here, it turns out I can't make it.

It was nice that you and Jason, and Ray all made an effort to encourage and allow me to play. I really appreciate that!

I'm pulling for J-town to bring home that trophy!

Count me in Jon. West Park was pretty disgusting when we were there for tags. You know my schedule and you have my number. Call me and I'll be there.

Courses / Re: Concrete Tees for Highland
« on: March 26, 2010, 07:48:05 AM »
My back is weak, and my expertise is small when it comes to concrete. I can, however, play gopher or whatever else needs to be done. I just can't safely lift more than 30lbs, and definitely not repeatedly.

I am, however, more than willing to pony up some cash to help get this done. I think Darrin already has me on his short list for this, but I wanted to respond to this post anyway to show support, and make sure my name is still on the list.

My personal wish is a concrete tee for hole 15, with a slight slope to the back to help the water flow off of it without creating a safety issue. (ie: slope to the front could be a safety issue, especially in the winter.) But, of course, this is probably the most difficult hole to put a concrete tee pad on.

With the recent news about Shorewood, I think it will be great to show the city of Joliet that we are committed to this sport and willing to improve the parks we play in thru our own time, effort, and money.

Courses / Re: SHOREWOOD IS GOING!!
« on: March 26, 2010, 07:36:21 AM »
That is sad news. I started at Shorewood. Though it seems awfully short now, I remember being really puzzled the first time I heard someone say that the park was too easy. At that point, for me, Shorewood was still difficult enough. It is a great course for a quick round, too break in newbies at, or just to keep traffic down at the tougher courses in the area.

I've been walking a promising site in Mather Woods a lot lately. Mentioned it to Gary Lewis last year, but at the time, I had barely explored it. I believe after walking it that it would make a great spot for a new course. It won't rival Highland, but it has some nice features to create a course around. There is a couple creeks running thru it, and a few smaller (aka not as large as Highlands) ravines......one of which forms a cool fishbowl like area. There are walking paths thru it already, but I believe there is enough room to make a decent course there without creating a safety issue with the paths.

I'm no expert on this, that's for sure. But I would like to explore the idea further. If anyone else is interested in looking at it with me, or pointing me in the right direction on who to talk to in Plainfield, I'll be more than happy to put some time and effort into making it happen.

And who knows, maybe we could talk Shorewood into donating their baskets?

Absolutely couldn't agree more Frank!

I think that is one of the great things about disc golfers. We actually care enough to pick up someone else's trash. There will always be people who are too lazy to cart their own trash out, but as long as there are players willing to pick up a little here and there, we can all play in a beautiful setting.
