Shoot The Breeze / Fund Raising for Channahon
« on: November 06, 2010, 07:51:52 PM »
Thor's glow golf fund raiser for concrete tees make me think what I can do for funds at Channahon. Watching him tonight made me put myself in his position. I'm sure i could do it, but it's way out of my comfort zone.
To give an example that may appear insignificant, as far as end result, I have $142.00 with material, painting J-Town on #4. The club would refund my total cost but I'm only asking for $75.00 for the two gallons of stain. Thirty dollars was my mistake for picking the wrong colors. That's just one example.
I'm lookig for input. One thought I had is raffle tickets. They would accumulate over a certain dollar amount, & then be raffled. Another thought is having  a fund raiser tournament. I'm looking for suggestion.

Thank You's / Timbers Channahon #2
« on: November 04, 2010, 05:50:02 PM »
It's been over two years that the timbers were displaced. Today the wall is back. Shawn Harmon was huge help. It was a pleasant suprise, it made for the disappointment the day before. Thanks Shawn!
Shawn is also going to help me tomorrow. You'll need to come out to winter league & check that out. I think it will be obvious, we'll see.
I got a call from Bangham but we had it under control. Thanks for the offer Dean.

Without starting a new post this is an update. Shawn suggested putting rocks in front of the timbers so we did. It looks nice but I'm not sure how it will function after the water runs.

Courses / Help!!!
« on: November 01, 2010, 05:56:04 PM »
I'm not sure if this is the best sight to ask for help......we'll see. I'm attempting to disassemble the timbers on #2 at Channahon tomorrow. What needs to be done is setting the 6" x 8" x 16' timbers on anchor bolts. The problem comes with setting the timbers directly over the bolts. They can't be dragged or it will bend the bolts. What we need to do is pick up the timbers & set them directly over the bolts. Eight people would be nice but I think we can do it with six. Please pass it on to someone that will be willing to help, maybe Wednesday or Thursday. I think it's going to take most of the day to take them apart. they were put together not to come apart, like the baskets.

Courses / Channahon #2
« on: October 22, 2010, 07:52:43 PM »
After nearly two years we're moving ahead to get the timbers back in place on #2. I had help today shooting the grade & mixing 14 80lb. bags of sakrite. The Park bought the concrete & that saved me some money. My help to today wants to remain anonymous. he was a big deal, I couldn't shoot the grade by myself. What was done is three piers were dug 42" deep with anchors special anchors, fabricated by Amos (Park) to secure the bottom timbers. Re-bar was also put in. If this doesn't work we'll have a big mess. There was 14" of water in the bottom of the holes. There is good & bad in most things, the drought made this possible, but no help for the grass seed on #11. Sooooo..... now that has to be done is dismantle the timbers with 12" spikes & re- bar. By the way I asked Tom McManus for suggestions & he suggested I do this. It brings me back to what a network of people we have.  Of course J-Town is the best!!!

Thank You's / Gary Lewis Achievement Award
« on: October 16, 2010, 06:23:00 PM »
Today was a big deal for me, thankyou. The plaque is beautiful. The wood is like furniture.
The first thing I did when I got home is showed Jeanie. She was moved & wanted to know who wrote the words. I assumed Jesse. Anyway, she said that's not going in your room, & made space on the mantle.
I've said this before about you all being extended family. Everyone means much to me. I know I'm loved & the love goes back. What a Great bunch of people!!!
Thanks again with all my heart!!!

Thank You's / Winter & Summer League
« on: October 14, 2010, 07:49:36 PM »
I want to thank those who have contributed to help me with funds for Channahon. Mike, Mick, and Carbo first recognized the financial need in beautifying Channahon and were first to help with league money, which they've done for the past three years. Most recently and although it's not summer league, Jesse and Darrin donated the fundraiser money to me at the Channahon tournament.   Other years Randy Moore and Al Hermosillo have kicked in, as well as nameless others. Gary Lewis has contributed money in the past, and he, with the help of others, have devoted their time and labor in getting all of the area courses ready for tournaments. To all of these people, including those whom I have not named, I thank you for the effort you contribute to making J-Town Disc Golf a great club.

Thank You's / Thanks for the Help!
« on: October 06, 2010, 06:16:29 PM »
Hole #11 at Channahon has turned out to be a big pain for one reason & another. Different reasons, wet weather, equipment breakdown, lack of cooperation from the Park (to be fair disc golf is low priority, no revenue) timing to be there.
That changed today. Shawn Harmon, & Roy Bazan along with Brian McCarthy from the Park, including myself removed the rock. That paved the way to get the pulverized dirt.
It seems when I get in a spot those two are there. Thanks Shawn & Roy we moved a lot of rocks.

Leagues & Tourneys / Tuesday 09/21 Handicap
« on: September 20, 2010, 04:03:25 AM »
We may have a problem with our handicap league Tuesday 09/21 at Channahon. It's cross country season & Tuesdays, Thursdays, & Saturday morning are cross country days. Sometimes on week days there are only a few runners & sometimes many. I know this & should have said something sooner. I have no conclusion, we'll just have to see.

Courses / Let the Talks Begin!
« on: September 11, 2010, 08:04:21 PM »
The park called Friday afternoon & wants to meet at my convenience. I'm going to see if Thursday morning works. There are issues on both sides & we'll have to see how er can compromise. The reality for me was to throw in the towel. I know how to sneak out there & do a minimum to get ready for the tournament. I have so much more going on in my life to argue with unthankful people. They want to talk so maybe they do appreciate what's been done. It's encouraging.
We'll see.

Thank You's / Kudos Jason Poole!!!
« on: September 05, 2010, 06:24:48 PM »
You have to see the work he did  on #4. Awesome!!! First he had to come up with the design, then size it to fit. He then cut the letters to make a wooden template After that spacers had to be made for the right height so the router wouldn't go in too deep. The words are recessed into the wood, in case some don't what a router does.  This was time consuming. It is simply awesome!!! Nice job Jason!!!

Courses / No Seed for #11 Channahon
« on: September 03, 2010, 07:35:58 PM »
I'm running into some snags with the park. One mail says finish you're projects & another says don't do any more until we talk.
Here's a little story. I hoped to have that seeded last fall, obviously that didn't happen. As things worked out I got fill from the upgrades they're doing in the park. Although much of the work was done by hand part of the 150 yards was knocked down with a machine.
I went for radiation & after the treatments would go there & work. It was easy to nap when I got tired. That went on for about a month, I'm guessing on average three times a week. I broke the shaft on my tiller because of the rocks. I decided to get pulverized dirt & get ready for seed. The park shut me down. Go figure? No cost to the park, no labor cost.  What's up? I've told them how I feel but that's been tempered, at least by my definition. I refuse to put up with their bullshit. If I meet with them I'll tell them what I really think. Bottom line one bridge burnt down & destroyed. OK! What can I do at Highland & Oswego? I already have ideas.
