IOS #76 - Oswego Open

Eagle Ridge, Oswego, IL
June 4 & 5, 2016
PDGA C/B Tier

Eagle Ridge is the home course of the Fox Valley Metro Disc Golf Club. We'd like to thank them along with the Oswegoland Park District for continually improving this course. The tight woods challenge players to keep it in the fairway and the open holes gives players a breather before heading back into the woods. The elevated pin on hole 9 has tested many players nerves while putting.

This event will be two rounds of 21 holes.

More details including divisions, entry fees, schedule, etc. can be found on the details page on illinoisopenseries.com.

Registration Information

You can pre-register for this event through midnight June 2 either online at http://illinoisopenseries.com/preregister-ios76 or or by mailing in your registration (and make your checks payable) to:

Mike Krupicka
1119 Sara Lane
Naperville, IL 60565

Note that there is a $5 fee to register on the day of the event.

Parking Info:
Please consider parking at Violet Patch Park on Rt. 25. This is located at the western entrance to the course. Parking in the lot in front of the Civic Center is reserved for swimming pool patrons.

What Division should I play?
If you have a PDGA rating you should play in a division based on that rating. If you do not have a rating, here are recommended divisions based on typical scores on the short layout at Oswego:
Score    Division
< 50    Am1
51-53    Am2
54-57    Am3
58+    Am4

VERY IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT IOS #74!

IMPORTANT INFORMATION!!!!!
WAUKEGAN WILL BE A SPLIT DAY TOURNAMENT

Due to the huge turnout at our single day Marengo tournament and the race to finish before dark, we received approval to split our final IOS tournament in Waukegan. Sorry for this late notice if you have already requested off from work for one of the days!

Division splits (MAX OF 4-SOMES PER CARD EACH DAY):
MPO / MA2 / MA4 / FA2 / FA4 will play SATURDAY, October 10th.
All Other Divisions play SUNDAY, October 11th.

This is our normal division split with one exception - we will have the Intermediate Women and Novice Women play Saturday instead of all women playing Sunday. This also gives women a chance to play both days in a women protected division if desired!

We will be reaching out to everyone that has to make a change in which day they are playing. Anyone that is pre-registered with us and now can no longer make it (or chooses not to play a division that is offered on Saturday), will be offered a full refund of your entry fee.

The pre-registration information will be updated soon (as well as the PDGA website).

Overall we hope that this will be a very positive thing for all players involved. Thanks for making the IOS a smashing success!

Right now we have plans for 2 rounds of 22 holes. There is contemplation for a 23rd hole, but we may leave it as is. That means we max at 88 (or 92) players each day.

Bang those chains!

For the split day events (#68, #69, #70, #72), Open, Am II, Am IV play on Saturday, all others on Sunday.

A note on amateur divison names: The IOS team feels that the traditional division names (Advanced/Intermediate/Recreational/Novice) can be misleading. We will instead refer to them as AM I, AM II, AM III, and AM IV. See the FAQ page for more info.

Pre-Registration is CLOSED for IOS #68. We have 27 spots available for Saturday, and 15 spots available for Sunday.

Here's how the spots will be awarded out:
At 6:30 AM we will start handing out spots. If there are more players than spots available at that time we will have a LOTTERY to hand out the spots. This means that you do not have to arrive super early to wait. However, you would want to arrive by 6:20 to make sure you are included in the lottery that would take place at 6:30. If there are still spots remaining after 6:30 AM, we will continue to hand out spots on a first come, first served basis. We will probably not be set up well enough yet at that point to register you for the event, but you would at least have a ticket to get in. Plan to start being called up at 7:30 AM to register.

FOR SUNDAY: We WILL allow people to pre-register with us on SATURDAY for Sunday's event! These will be handled on a first come, first served basis.

Any spots still remaining Sunday morning will be handled just as we are handling Saturday's remaining spots.

Introducing series points for clubs! At this point it is just for bragging rights, but we thought we'd experiment with a team/club component to the series.

Points are as follows:
If a player places in one of the 5 major divisions (MPO, Am1-am4), they will earn their club points
1st = 10 pts
2nd = 5 pts
3rd = 3 pts
In the smaller divisions where there are at least two players participating:
1st = 5 pts
If a club has more than 10 players participating on a given day, they will earn 10 bonus points.

When you checkin, show the your bag tag for the club you are competing for and we will note it on your leader board card. The bag tag is required; no tag, no points! Note that this is just for identification purposes, the IOS team is does not have the manpower to compute/run tags for all of the participating clubs.

This may get tweaked through the year based on how things go and the feedback we receive. Please let us know what you think.

Thank you everyone who came out and played in the Discontinuum Club Challenge. We had 120 players compete in this years event. It is great to see of these players representing their local club. Support your clubs who support the courses around you.

Full results (including individual hole by hole scoring) can be found on my web site: http://www.krupicka.org/discgolf/14clubChallengeResults.html

Congratulations to the Disc Golfer's Union on again taking home the trophy.

Team results:

I'd also like to thank all of those who helped out in little ways to make this happen. Brett Comincioli and Tom McManus who spearhead this thing. John Cleaveland for his awesome tag buckets, spotting and doing whatever else needs to get done. I know there were a few more in the tent helping out, but sometimes it all becomes a blur. Thanks guys.

For those wondering on the math above. The points for the pro division are triple weighted to come up with the combined score.

FWIW It looks like the Homie is planning on being an A-tier this year which would then run both Saturday 10/11 and Sunday 10/12. They toyed with running as an A-tier last year, but didn't pull the trigger. So I don't know if it will conflict or not, but thought I'd let you know.

I would highly recommend staying out of the Round Barn Lake. The bottom is the type of mud that holds on to you. Step in with a shoe and your shoe will not come back out with your foot.

There is registration day of the event thought there is a $5 day-of registration fee. We typically do not do online pre-reg on Friday as we are busy getting ready for the event and may not be online to process the registrations.
