Title: HIGHLAND PARK GROUND CLEAR SUMMER PROJECT
Post by: Mcfrolfer on April 17, 2015, 06:13:24 AM
Greetings everyone,

This summer, there is a ground clearing project starting at Highland park. The main goal is to clear all the downed trees and limbs that can potentially be hazardous and damaging to the course. Mike Flynn has stepped up and laid out a plan. His plan will successfully clean up the course and recycle the cleared debris back into the course. This plan has 3 main phases:

1-Rounding up and piling up all the trees and limbs.
This will be done over the next couple of months. You will see wood piles starting to form in some key locations. Feel free to add to them if you have some free time.

2-Renting a wood-chipper.
The budget for renting a large chipper has already been approved. We will need at least 2 trucks and a bunch of strong backs. We will move the chipper to the staged piles and begin chipping them down and spreading them on the course.

3-Finishing touches
Although the chipping will only be 1 or 2 days, the piles of wood-chips left may take longer to move around. Also the bigger logs will need to be moved to more useful places.

If you have any thoughts or ideas, or would like to volunteer to help with this project please let me know. With such a vast undertaking, any and all help is appreciated. DISC GOLF!

Tomorrow, Thursday May 7th, there will be a small group of us meeting at 8 am. We are planning on working till roughly noon and then playing around after. If your available to help feel free to show up and hang out. We will have water and snacks for those helping out. Although we will have some extra supplies (Saws, carts, rope, clippers) extra never hurts. With First Flight come up quickly we are going to be out there more often, so there is plenty of opportunities left to help out. DISC GOLF!

Phase 1 update!

The staging areas have been set. We feel these areas are localized enough to accommodate clean-up from any hole. They will also allow easy access for the trucks and chipper.

Area 1- Between the tee pad of 10 and 17.
Area 2- Between the basket of 3 and the tee pad of 4. (top of snake road)
Area 3- The bottom of snake road
Area 4- The path between the basket for 18 and tee for 1.

We have also taken some time to clear snake road. This will allow us a easy path to move things through the park. We are still on target for having the course at least clear for First Flight.

This week is the last big push to get phase one done before First Flight. I'll be working out at Highland today (5/18), 1030-2ish. If you have any spare time feel free to lend a hand.

We will have the chipper out there this Friday 7/10, from 8am-4pm. If you can help please do.
We will have some tools to use but more is always better. Tools needed for this phase: Shovels, saws, hand trimmers, buckets, rakes, wheelbarrows/carts.
