Title: Looking for *D marked Destroyers
Post by: fierke on November 21, 2010, 06:50:17 PM
If anyone has any early star destroyers, not first runs, but destroyers made before the dart was in production.  The way you can tell these apart from others is that they will be marked with a *D on the bottom rather than a *DS or S/DS.  Let me know. Seven-zero-eight-six-three-eight-two-nine-nine-nine.

Yes, Sir.  I didn't want to type it out because some websites use bots to scan forums and pick out phone numbers for telemarketing purposes.

I took care of it Mike, still learning, & I thought I saw four nines. I have destroyers laying around. I'll put them in the car & you can check them out. I won't be at league Sunday but I'll have them with me the next time I see you.

Sounds great, Frank.  I will be out at league at West in a couple weeks, hope to see you then.

Hey Frank,
Sorry I didn't catch up with you at leagues on Sunday.  I saw you out there but the destroyers just slipped my mind.  I should be out at Lockport on Saturday and probably at Shorewood on Sunday.  Hope to see you out there.

Mike

According to Innova, there is no difference between a Destroyer marked D, or DS, other than who marked it. Apparently, one guy there likes to mark them D, and the other marks them DS. This is according to my sales rep at Innova.

Not saying I know it's true.....just relaying what Innova told me.

Sounds like a reliable source, although it does not explain why there is an abundance of *DS and S/DS destroyers and very few *D destroyers available.  I am going to say that as time has gone by there have been slight modifications to plastic and molding methods and that may be the cause of the *D destroyers turning out flatter and almost softer version of star plastic.

But as Frank said to me when he sold a couple to me, it could just be my weird plastic "fetish." Hahaha

I think we all know that Innova's discs have a tendency to change slightly over time due to differences in the plastic used, which mold, what time of year, was it humid or not, hot or cold out, etc. etc.,

So, even though it might just be two different guys marking the discs, there might still be a corollation (sp?) between the different markings and a difference in the discs. What if, say, one of them works the day shift, and the other works the night shift? Could that cause enough difference between discs of the same model that you would notice a difference in the flight pattern or wear characteristics?

Or it could just be your weird plastic "fetish"
