I want to add, Mary Beth was very receptive.Like I mentioned in another post, they posted course closed for the J-Town tournament. I never saw that before. Those communicating with Mokena are doing a wonderful job. Don't forget the USDGC qualifer will be there.

WEEK 10 - June 6, 2012
First Half #10
The Oaks - Mokena, IL

TEES
27 Holes - White Tees - Par 81

CONDITIONS
The temperature to start the round was around 75 with some NE gusts in the teens. The sun was out and it felt great. The temp fell into the mid 60s by the end of the round.  A picture perfect night. The course looked great and it was in  great shape.  Another perfect night for disc golf

COMMENTS
To our experienced Ams that pair up with a beginner. Your guidance towards these players is a major part of the future success of the league. Please be a mentor to  these new players and make sure when they leave they feel like they had the coolest time and want to come back. It's great to win but if feels a whole lot better knowing you helped make difference in someones game. You just might be helping the next great player in our area.

After a 4-year hiatus the J-Town Disc Golf Doubles League was  back at The Oaks. Thanks to Mary Beth Windberg, Mokena’s Superintendant of Recreation for all of her support and for allowing this to happen. It was great to be back and we are looking forward to having The Oaks on the second half schedule a couple of more times.

The race  for  the top four spots in each division is coming down to the wire. With only three weeks left in the first half the gaps for the top spots are closing. We have a ton of players jockeying for position. It's going to be tough battle through June 27.

The Fourth of July falls on a Wednesday which would be the first week of the second half. League will be canceled that week and resume on July 11. Go and celebrate with your friends and families.

Cool Ace Stories:
On Andrew Smith’s first throw of the night Andrew hits his first ace of his life. Now that's pretty damn cool. He aced hole 16.
Paul Pazanin aced Hole 12 which was also the CTP for the CFR disc. The cool thing is Paul told me to keep the disc and donate it to Operation J-Town Storm. These packages from home mean the world to our soldiers! Please donate and check out the link for more info.

TOP THREE

Leo Borowski & Steve Forneris completely destroy the course by shooting an amazing round of 60 (-21). They take the top honors for the night. Now that's a hot round. They end up splitting 131 bucks and tacking on 4 huge points to their point totals for the first half. Fern now moves into first place alone with a two point cushion. Leo gives himself a chance to get back into top four with a late first half surge. Al Hermosillo & Dave Kocuiba shoot a fantastic round of 61 (-20) to take second place out right for the night. They end up taking home 43.50 each and they both make significant jumps in the points standings. Dave is now only one point out of fourth while Al sits at three points out. Taking third place out right for the night were Buddy Lee & Steve Slater. They also shot a fantastic round of 62 (-19) and split 60 bucks. They both keep their hopes a live for the first half and they need a late first half surge to get to at least that fourth spot.

They end up taking home $23 each. Andrew keeps his hopes a live for the half and will need a late first half charge to catch the top four. Matt Hotuyec & Darren Terpstra also shoot a very nice round last night. They come in with a 65 (-16)  and take the third place honors out right. They end splitting 35 bucks. Nice shooting guys!

TEES
24 Holes - Long Tees - Par 72

CONDITIONS
The temperature to start the round was in around 69 with some wind from the NE The sun was out and it felt great. COMMENTS
To our experienced Ams that pair up with a beginner. Your guidance towards these players is a major part of the future success of the league. Please be a mentor to  these new players and make sure when they leave they feel like they had the coolest time and want to come back. It’s great to win but if feels a whole lot better knowing you helped make difference in someones game. You just might be helping the next great player in our area.

Kayla VanTricht becomes only the second women to cash in league history. She is the first women to have a good enough score to tie for first in league history. Kayla ends up in second place in the Am/Nov division. Nice shooting Kayla!

The race  for  the top four spots in each division is coming down to the wire.
In the Pro/Adv division Steve Forneris &  Darrin Johnson are  tied for first with only two weeks left in the first half.  Tom Matesevac is only two points off the pace and making a big push for the top spot. With Fern missing next week it leaves the door wide open for some movement.  The top four spots  are starting separate from the rest of the field and time is running out for that late push.

In the Am/Nov division it looks like Kevin Yockman is going to run away with the first place spot for the first half. He just won again giving himself a six point lead with only two weeks left. Thor Batchelor and Kester Jeffers have a comfortable three point lead for second and third but they will definitely need to play well to maintain that lead. They will also be battling against each other for that second place spot. The race for the fourth and final spot includes almost 20 players so it should be very interesting to see the pairing these next couple of weeks. It’s going to go down to the wire.

The Fourth of July falls on a Wednesday which would be the first week of the second half. League will be canceled that week and resume on July 11. Go and celebrate with your friends and families.

WEEK 13 - June 27, 2012
First Half #13
Highland Park - Joliet, IL

TEES
18 Holes - Long Tees Pro/Adv, Short Tees Am/Nov- Par 57 Everybody played the alternate Blue Tee on Hole 16. A 350 plus shot teeing from behind hole eleven's blue tee pad. It’s about 300 to the top of the hill with about a 50 foot straight down putt. A very cool shot and everyone seemed to enjoy the challenge.

CONDITIONS
The temperature to start the round was a around 90 with winds from the south at around 12mph. Gusts were near 25 mph.  It was a tough hot, windy day for disc golf. The temp fell into the low 80s and the winds died down by the end of the round.  The course is looking pretty good but it still needs some trimming and garbage collecting before IL State.

Don't forget league is at Mokena this week. It's the first week of the second half, so everybody starts over with points. Also the overall points start.

COMMENTS
• To our experienced Ams that pair up with a beginner. Your guidance towards these players is a major part of the future success of the league. Please be a mentor to  these new players and make sure when they leave they feel like they had the coolest time and want to come back. It’s great to win but if feels a whole lot better knowing you helped make difference in someone’s game. You just might be helping the next great player in our area.

Gateway Giveaway!
Thanks to Dave McCormack at Gateway Discs Sports for sponsoring our league with Gateway discs. Through their kind gesture we were able to have a very cool &  unique league ctp.  On hole #1 we had a ctp for each individual group as they played it. We ended up with 15 ctp winners. The winners were pretty excited to get something new in their hands.  The winners were Josh Pole, Leo Borowski, Joe Kolar, Adam Fabianski, Rory Callahan, Joe Ward, Luigi Noe, Greg Guther, Zac H., Tom Rafac, Mike Kusy, Harry Hood, John Knudson, Al Hermoskillo and Darrin Johnson. WEEK 15 - July 18, 2012
Second Half #2
The Round Barn -Manhattan

TEES
18 Holes - Red Baskets   Par 54

CONDITIONS
To start the round the temp was around 95 degrees and with a dew point of 70 degrees it felt like 102 degrees. It was a very hot humid night. The temp dropped into mid to low 80s at the end of the night making it feel a little better. There were storms threatening all around us all night but nothing hit.

COMMENTS
• Thanks to Katie Cluckey the Athletic Program Coordinator and
Manhattan Park District for allowing us to bring our league to their new facility at The Round Barn.
It was a great experience by all. The water holes proved to be KING. We must of had a least 15 discs lost in  the water from holes 3-5. I think a lot of the damage came  from players getting greedy trying to clear hole 4. The water holes were great.

The Am/Nov division out played the Pro/Adv division. The Am/Novs had two teams shooting 44s compared to only one in the Pro/Adv division. The Ams tying the Pros has only happened a couple of times when all divisions are playing equal tees. Now to have two Am teams is even rarer and in fact I don’t think it’s ever happened.  Nice Shooting!
By the way the two Am/Nov teams beat the rest of their field by 5 strokes.

• Tom Matesevac continues to play his butt off. He opens up a huge lead in both  the second half and overall in the Pro/Adv division. It’s been a while and we are possibly looking at the new triple crown winner!
