Title: Chain Reaction - June 16th - Ams only B-Tier
Post by: Aces and Chains on May 21, 2012, 12:02:12 PM
B-Tier Amatuer Only Tournament at West Park on June 16th.

This event will be Pre-Registration ONLY. There will be no day of registration at the course. (This event will fill during pre-reg anyway.) Pre-Registration will close Thursday, June 14th at 7pm. Pre-register at: http://www.acesandchains.com/node/792

There will be no "check-in." Hole assignments will be posted on the Aces and Chains website by 5pm Friday (Probably earlier). Or check the leaderboard when you get to the course. First player on the card is responsible for picking up the scorecard.

No players meeting. OB is detailed below, and will also be on your scorecards. Any questions prior to the start of play, please see the TD, Patrick Johnson. The two minute warning (two blasts) will sound at 9am, and play will begin on a single horn blast at 9:02am. Players are responsible for getting to their tees on time for the start of play. Late players will be penalized according to the rules.

OB:

Water: Surrounded by water in the creek that runs by holes 1,2,3,5,11,15,16. If you are in the creek surrounded by water (regardless of what hole you are throwing), you are OB.

Pavement: Any pavement on, or around the course is OB. If the pavement has a cement curb and gutter, the cement curb and gutter are considered IN BOUNDS. This provides an easy to determine and definitive line for OB. This includes all paved paths (like hole 10) or unused parking lots (like hole 4).

Out of the park: If you are out of the park, you are OB. Over the fence on 2,4,6,& 8 is OB. Over the road on 13,16,17,18,19,21,22, & 24 is OB.

Hole 11: Over the creek to the left is OB.

Hole 21& 22: It is possible on both of these holes to be over the street and still in the park. However, to prevent any confusion, over the street on these two holes is STILL OB.

We'll probably add some temp holes as well, and when we get that solidified, I'll post it here.

This is a new format we are going to test at Chain Reaction. It should make for a more pleasant experience without the required check in (and long lines.)

TD Headquarters will be at the pavillion above hole 8. We will still be there in the morning, just like usual, to answer any questions, or handle any issues.

Tournament fee is $37 including the $2 online reg fee, + $10 if you are not a current PDGA member.

I'm extremely new to the PDGA - just got my number yesterday - and have only been playing for a couple of months...What is B-Tier Amateur? I have an Amateur membership and would sign up for the event as a novice, I think.

First , Welcome! The different tiers are relative to players packs & points. The higher the tier level, the more the players pack. An example C tier, no players pack is required. A tier is a two day tournament. There is much more that you'll learn as time goes on. It sounds like novice is where I'd start. We have a handicap league on Tuesday's that will help you with you're rating. That doesn't happen on Wednesday doubles league.

There are three different tiers (Not including National Tour, and Major) A, B, C. A is the biggest, and C the smallest.

A C tier is not required to have players packs, must be at least 85% minimum payout (I pay out 100% regardless), and is worth less points towards your rating.

A B tier is required to have at least a $10 player pack, 100% payout, $500 added cash to the Pro purse (if there is a Pro division), and is worth more points towards your rating.

An A tier is required to have at least a $25 player pack, 110% payout to the Amatuers, $1800 added cash to the Pros (if there is a Pro division), and is worth the most points towards your rating short of a NT or Major.

There are some other differences too, but from a players perspective, those are the most important.

Your certainly welcome to sign up. As a guideline, I usually tell new players that if you can throw over 300' with any consistency, you should probably start in Rec. If not, then start in Novice.

Hope to see you there.

Players Packs: Metal Flake Glitter minis, and a $7 Aces and Chains gift card. Players packs can be picked up at tournament central before, during lunch, or after the tournament.

CTPs: We're making signs for each CTP hole that will be placed at the tee box to clearly mark which holes are CTPs, and for what division.

Who is that, Johnny B or Patrick? I just met you guys today - bought the shirt and the new disc and had Johnny helping me out with some pointers (Black Mini Cooper, if that helps). Anyway, I really appreciate the information! I can't throw over 300' with any consistency yet (I'm pretty good on the short game, which is the only reason I feel even remotely comfortable even starting a tournament yet, lol) so I guess I'll shoot at novice for the first tour or two. Thanks alot for the warm welcome!

Title: More exciting changes! - Store credits
Post by: Aces and Chains on June 07, 2012, 08:22:51 AM
I am very happy to announce that, after much frustration and head scratching, that I finally have the website setup to accept tournament points (aka, store credits) as payment, or discount towards store merch online.

This means I can now give payouts in the form of online store credits if you so choose.

No more fighting the mad rush at the shop right after the tournament.
Out of towners can shop from the comfort of their own home instead of making that extra trip to the shop.

For those of you who like going to the shop, you are still welcome to stop by after any Aces and Chains tournament and pick up your gift card to shop in person.

I keep trying to improve the tournament experience for both the local players, and players coming in from out of town. And I'd like to thank all of you that have been patiently waiting for this option.

That sounds fantastic bro! You're one hell of a benefactor to this sport and I know I already appreciate your contributions!

On a side but related note, do you have a FB page? Are you going to get those silly little Facebook and Tweet links on your homepage? The only reason I ask is that I would like to support you guys as well as you support the sport...and the only way I can do that is to help promote you and your store. I even mentioned to a Veteran I saw today (I am a Veteran and I work for the VA; I saw he had a DGA sticker on his car) to check out your store if he was down this way.

I really appreciate that! Word of mouth is huge. A big thanks to you and everyone else who tells their friends and the people they meet about Aces and Chains. I can't thank all of you enough.

We do have a facebook page. Just look up Aces and Chains and you'll find us. We always post when new shipments come in, so if you like us on facebook, you will always be informed.

I can think of another way you can help. IL. State is coming up & it's at Highland.  There is a lot of work needed to get the course ready. Jesse is the TD & I'm sure he'll post something. Welcome to the Joliet disc golf community. I include Oswego when I say that.

I can definitely help out with Highland - hopefully he'll post something or someone else can provide direction on what is needed and what we can help with, either way, I'm down.

3 Temp Holes will be added. All temp holes will be played between holes 8 and 9. Flags were put out for each tee and pin placement yesterday (Sunday).

8A: Tee box is marked at the back corner of the tennis courts. Basket will be in the usual spot tucked into the woods between the tee boxes for 8 and 9.

8B: Tee box is up and to the left of 9's tee box. Signs will be posted to show the way. A straight shot down thru the trees to the basket (almost to the road.) Road is OB.

8C: Tee box is to the right (downhill) of 8B's basket. Long hyzer route uphill to basket. First tree on the left will be a MANDO (must throw to the right of it.)

The mando has not been marked yet. I haven't measured the holes yet, but from memory yesterday, 8A is about 400', 8B & 8C are in the 270-300' range. If I can get a measuring wheel, I'll measure them and post it here.

8A is 383 feet, 8B is 279 feet, and 8C is 302 feet.

A huge shout out to Baline Schepp. That burger was delicious! Staying behind to help with the baskets and transport them over to the shop was priceless. Thanks for being you. Love your face.

A big thanks to Steve Slater as well. Steve stepped up without being asked and helped with the leaderboard at the end to help us all get out quicker. Maggy joined in. TJ helped as well. That was huge to me and everyone else, and I really appreciated it. Thank you so much.

Kayla not only won her division, but she offered to help early and often, making up scorecards, helping with the leaderboard after both rounds, putting out signs....she even reminded me when I forgot to announce one of the division winners.  ;?)   thank you!

Mike Kursell did the artwork, and helped out during the tournament when I needed it. Thanks for all your help Mike!

It was a great day, and I hope everyone had a blast. See you at the next one.

I've  also have had the privilege of eating the Schepp's cooking & it's delicious! It's nice to hear positive things about people helping out. Kudos!
