PDGA / Re: PDGA Certified Officials Exam

Hey Frank -

Just happy to be a back-up for Aaron on the tags league and happy to assist you and Gibby on Tuesday nights!

And what I really want to say is taking the official's exam won't help Gibby make those 10-15 foot putts!!  He still needs you for that!

(Just jokes, Gibby!!) :)

Ha! I had a chance to get my brother Frankie back! He missed a 10 footer on hole 7 while I was standing at the end of 9. I yelled:  "Frank! You want me to show you how to make those putts?!?"

Some higher tier events require everyone to pass the exam. It really is just a rules proficiency test.

Open book test. Since you just took it: Has it been updated for the 2013 rules changes or is the test still based on the 2011 rules?

The test is still based on the 2011 rules.

Did you take the test, or did you just check it out?

FVMDGC is dropping off $5785 and over 200 pounds of food to the Kendall County Food Pantry today. Big Thank You goes out to all the sponsors, helpers, golfers, and the Oswegoland Park District for making the Fox Valley Metro Disc Golf Clubs 7th Annual Ice Bowl the best ever! There were close to 300 Ice Bowls world wide this year and we feel we can crack the top ten for our first time. Will post 2013 results when they come out.

Way to go! Very impressive and worthy of such a great group of people!

are the tags given out in number order to try to obtain the lowest one possible and to help identify the number of people with them, or is it just whichever one gets passed out?

talk about a muddy mess today..

First come, first serve is the general way someone gets a tag. With the top 25 (I wasn't there, so help me out Aaron) there was a play off at Round Barn to see who ended up with the lowest tag numbers. After that, it depended on when you bought your 2013 tag.

The tags are really just for bragging rights - no other reason for them as far as the other part of your question.

PDGA / Re: PDGA Certified Officials Exam

I should be doing this soon too, thanks. I been playing for a couple of years and I just recently got my PDGA (#56490) for Christmas and I've already read the rule book.

Congrats on getting your PDGA number!

I did it because I am running Handicap leagues in the Spring with Frank and I want to be as sure as I can be that I am doing the sanctioned leagues correctly. Plus, I have to answer questions and potentially make decisions on people's cards and such.

Not sure - I started playing in 2012 and I didn't read the rule book until yesterday, honestly. I actually read the whole rule book and the tournment book before I took the test, but it gave some good scenarios that I still had to go back and look in the book to make sure I was correct.

Leagues & Tourneys / Re: Vibram Birdie Bash
« on: January 14, 2013, 06:23:16 PM »
I'd like to join, but I'm new and typically shoot over par, sometimes hit par and the occasional birdie. Would I fit into a tournament like this?

For sure! This is not a "sanctioned" event. If you are a PDGA member, in sanctioned events, the results are sent to the PDGA and they are added to your personal rating, which determines your overall skill level and that skill level is what you would have to compete in. For example, I am a novice because my overall skill level is under a rating of 850.

Anyway, this birdie bash has nothing to do with PDGA and it is literally just for fun - and a chance to play with cool people that aren't worrying about their PDGA rating either. So in a long winded response, this would be perfect for you to attend.

If you you have any more questions about anything at all, feel free to post or send an instant message - or you can ask any disc golfer.

Well, I haven't heard this word apply to me, remission! I met with the radiologist yesterday, Jan. 11, & she uttered that word. The last two psa reading were 0.01 down from 13.82. It is awesome news!!! It can pop up again, but it's coming up to 3 years & everything is going in the right direction. Another step in this process is to have the hormone medication leave my system. I did not get a definite answer to that question, but in general a few months.
Thanks for the support, it's huge!!!

I'm so happy and proud of you! Positive attitude and a winning spirit beats the odds brother! Great news - even though you told me at Channy - still had to say it again how happy I am for you!
