Channahon

i wish that i would have had the chance to see the course back then.  i dont even think i knew what disc golf was until 2005 or 2006.  that would be neat if the holes at channahon all had individual names like at highland.. i like that touch over there.. it makes you realize all the people who put in hard work.. franks name would have to be on just about every hole at channahon..

I love the idea of the names on the holes. I'd really like to see a person/player take "ownership" of a hole. Each person can find their own way to make it theirs, whether it be interesting touches along the way, like a custom path, or signage, adding a broom to the tee box. There are a lot of ways to make a hole yours without impeding the path of the disk. I once spoke to Frank about using the rocks he dug up at Channahon to make some interesting rock formations on one of the holes. Obviously, it would have to be done in good taste, and not impede the game. Other players will have other interesting ideas that I haven't thought of. But, my thought is that by allowing someone to take ownership of a hole at a course will encourage them to keep it clean and in top shape. This lowers the burden on some of the great people who now take care of way too much. Doing too much will wear on you after a while, and I would rather take the burden off of someone then to let them burn out and lose their help forever.

Plus, it would just add a ton of personality to a course if each hole was improved by a different player who took it seriously.

Channahon signs look great! Mike is definitely one of a kind and we're lucky to have him.

I want to respond to the end of your message first. If you are referring to me, my effort is a passion of love & it's effortless. It is not work but a joy! My pay is the complements from golfers that have been a huge support to me & are friends. I will not take credit for your rock idea, it will not happen at any course from me & told you why. Thanks for the thought.
Jason Poole gets my mind working. Let me share the process on #4 (Channahon of course), maybe 6 years total. Gary suggested looking at the berms at Romeoville. It took some time to check that out, a year maybe longer. Then to do something at Channahon. #4 seem to be the most obvious. (water) As that berm evolved, I couldn't get it high enough to have a mower cut the grass & still get what I wanted, Thus the box. Then we have the concrete with fiber mesh, & self leveling sealant. From there we go to the angles from the flat. Jason Poole jumped in there with our J-Town logo.
Roy Carey gave me input on the location on #2's basket & #14's tee pad. It's not all me.

Hole 9 is mine Grimes, now take your Italian Sausage fingers off of it. All i want from you is about a couple thousand rocks to line both sides of the fairway. Then clear out about another 75 feet behind and slightly to the right of current basket, and build around a 20 ft mound to put the basket on top of. After you do all that put my name on it, oh and by the way thanks in advance. One last request i forgot about frank. The large tree just left and in front of the tee that blocks big anhyzer shots, i need that removed. Twenty years ago that thing was the size of a 5 ft bush and was quite easy to throw over. I hope your passion can accomodate my needs brother, otherwise i'll have to find someone else to do all the work so i can take ownership of my hole. Let me know how long this will all take, i was thinking you could have all this done by thanksgiving.

You crack me up Flash. What I'll do is put that on the to do list. Short term I'll make a sign & stick it in the ground with your name on it. I'll stick it on the right of the short tee pad. We have to think of a name, it used to be Harmon's Hill.
