Definitely considering this. Will you be calling #11 a par 4?

Series Finale @ Streator is CALLED OFF!!!!
Half the course is underwater and the pavilions are almost completely submerged. Dana will be trying to figure out a new date ASAP. Remember all our water is headed down there so no chance it will go down in time. Bummer! 7

I sure hope Pro/Adv. won't play Reds. That's just too short. You're taking away the challenge of the course.

PDGA / Re: Why So Many 1100s at Memorial?« on: April 15, 2013, 07:41:30 PM »
Interesting, but VERY technical.
Here's what I see. The top guys just light it up! 17 down is HOT anywhere. And at the Memorial, for those that aren't lighting it up, scores can skyrocket quickly. With so much water around, OB penalties add up real quick. Therefore there is a huge score difference between the average pro's and the top-level guys. Some of those greens at Fountain - sheesh! I'd have to swallow constantly to keep my rectum from shooting out of my mouth! 9

+4 from the Blues, -2 from the Whites. Might've been able to get #18 if I wasn't so tired and wet by that point!
This should be a fun event guys! The Whites may be a little messy, but only for 5 feet or so. You can back up to get good footing. Looks like NO ONE plays the Blues, so those are fresh. I made sure they were all staked (some weren't) and even did some weeding of the big dead stuff. Looks like a perfect time for a tourney. All that long tall razor-type grass is laying down, so spotters won't be necessary. I'd imagine all the water will be casual as it is impossible to tell where it starts/stops. It is a fun place. Come on out for the inaugural tourney! 10

Equipment / Re: Shoes?« on: April 08, 2013, 11:27:58 AM »
The difference between waterproof and Gore-Tex shoes (Merrell's at least) is pretty much name only. And about 20 bucks. The patent on Gore-Tex has expired, so companies can make the same thing for less.
I have gotten shoes from Zappos.com online when I'm confident in the sizing. I have also had pretty good luck on eBay! I picked up a pair of Gore-Tex Moab's for $70 w/ shipping and I think they may have been worn once! I'm just careful to pick ones that have a LOT of pictures and I look carefully at the soles to see wear. I also picked up some anti-fungal foot spray from Target (the bowling alley stuff) and SOAKED them before wearing. Recently the trend towards spikeless in golf shoes has piqued my interest. I think next time I may head to a golf store and check some out. Some of those soles look pretty mean. And they come in some crazy colors! 12

For me, Merrell Moab low's are the best mix between a hiking boot and running shoes. They seem to handle mud adequately. My best mud/cold shoes are Merrell Thermo 6's, but they are boots with a very aggressive sole.
The problem I always had with cleats is there is no grip when you get to a cement teepad. Also I like to pivot some and cleats feel like they want to tear my knee apart. Over the years I have finally decided that good play in mud is just a matter of getting used to bad footholds. It's more about mindset then soles. Good luck. 13

I like the honor system idea. No forced throw-off if it doesn't get hit either.
When I was in FL I saw the coolest thing and I guess they do it at most tourneys down there. Mokena's rules probably wouldn't allow it, but... Someone at the Throw Down the Mountain event hit an ace for over $500. He got the money and went and bought 3 cases of beer (Bud, Miller and Miller Lite). He then put the beers down by tourney central and gave out "Ace beers" to whoever wanted them! Giving the karma back. 14

I probably seemed somewhat harsh in my assessment of the course conditions. I just wanted to tell it how it is, so no one is surprised. If you didn't catch my second sentiment, this is it... Saturday is going to be messy. SO WHAT! I'm really looking forward to playing with some people I may not normally run into in a non-money centered, fun environment. Thanks to Mr. McManus for organizing this. As kids we used to love playing in the mud. Embrace your inner child and let's have some fun!
