Thank You's / Re: Thanks to Innova!!
« on: March 07, 2013, 08:05:24 PM »
Here's a different kind of thank you!

First the background:  For Christmas, I got a flag pole for my front yard!  I have wanted one of these telescopic flag poles for years now.

In addition to flying an American flag, I also have a Cubs flag (sorry Frank!).  I also wanted a "disc golf" flag.  Didn't really matter what type but I started looking for an Innova flag that would work.

These proved to be very difficult to find.  On a whim and after searching since the first of the year, I decided to email the company.

Early afternoon I got a reply from David Shope in customer service telling me that they have a flag that should work nicely.  I sent an email back telling him that would be awesome and in addition to my address what would the charge be??

2 hours later he replied saying it was on it's way to me and there would be no charge!

I replied back letting him know I'd send a pic or two of it once I get it in the ground this spring!

I don't throw Innova plastic exclusively, I'll throw anything that works for me!  Nonetheless, pretty cool gesture on Innova's part.  Just wanted to share that with my disc golf fam!!
Ouch! I'll bring the Sox flag!

Hey guys I was out with my brother at channahon today cleanings pads and benches and ended up losing two discs (both were unmarked :/) I lost my blue proto d1 on hole 14 and my black tern on hole 5/6. If you anyone happens to find either of them I would appreciate it if you let me know, thanks. Also, my sister in law, Brittany, lost a pink gold line saint at hole 12. Thanks for reading, hope to hear back. Channahon pads and benches are immaculate! Come get your rounds in!!! ;D
Good job Chango!   ;)

J-Town Disc Golf Club / Re: Sanctioning Bag Tags
« on: March 04, 2013, 09:19:47 PM »
That's exactly what I equate a less competitive round to be!
Guess those who play Saturday morning bag tags are just a bunch of cheaters and rule breakers!
What I've noticed with Saturday tags & I've mentioned it to Aaron, you guys are buddies. The same faces enjoying each others company. The rule I see broken often is the falling putt. Not so much on Saturday, but Sunday doubles. I've got to watch for the heel plant move. It's nice to be reminded of the common mistakes but I don't the rules are the issue. It's more about bonding & playing with friends. If you have a bad game, you go home with the highest tag. Guess who had the worst round in his history at Channahon? No names please. :) The rules need to be pointed out, but this area is reaching all levels of play. We have doubles, summer & winter, pro & am, tags, sanctioned, & unsanctioned. It's nice some of the rules were mentioned, we can see if the shoe fits.

Thank You's / Re: Tees Channahon

Me and a few other guys brought a shovel out and played a round and shoveled the pads then me and my bro played a second round and we took a ice scrapper out and got the ice:):)
I mentioned that to someone that I thought it was you guys. How nice that was!!! Thanks you guys! :)

Is it possible if an official can post a couple scheduled rounds before then. This way it will be easier to set something up. Just a thought.
Yes, the left side of the message board, like black & white posted. Titled leagues, then under that , spring/summer, & then handicap. That starts 4/2, at the round barn.

I can only guess & I won't. Thanks for clearing the tees for tags & doubles for this week. That's super cool!!! I planned to do them Thursday, & it didn't work.
Thanks!!!

Courses / Re: Highland Maintenance
« on: March 03, 2013, 07:06:53 AM »
I realize this is early, but I'd like to jump on it for Ill. State. The erosion on the steps are like a handicap ramp. We need sharp flat shovels, & I can put an edge on it, if needed. I'd like Jesse to focus on the tournament, we can get the course ready.
I'll be your water boy again Frankie! Just let me know my friend.
Your good help brother! Don't forget to make a list for Oswego.

Thanks Paco! It wouldn't feel right not helping getting the course ready. So I'll definitely be out there.
I thought you might think that way. We have your back!

Leagues & Tourneys / Re: Gibby and Grimes Handicap League
« on: February 27, 2013, 09:37:45 PM »
Gibby and Grimes Tuesday Night Handicap League

(Handicap - Singles League)

Start date:  Tentative start is April 9th, 2013 and will be the same schedule and course as the doubles league, just the night before doubles. (See Doubles Schedule on front page). I will update after I confirm with Jason that we are set with the PDGA sanctioning.

Entry fee ($5); optional Ace ($1); optional PDGA sanction ($1); CTPs (2 or 3 CTPs @ $2 each). CTPs will be designated as Prize Fund & Club Enhancements.

The payout will be the top 30% with a minimum of $5 for last cash.  $0.50 from each entry fee will pay the hot round of the day.

Players will still have the option of playing leagues as a PDGA Sanctioned event.  They will receive official ratings and points.

Handling of non-rated players:  If you do not have a PDGA rating, your first 3 rounds at the handicap leagues will be free to establish your handicap.  You will only be allowed to participate in the Ace Fund, CTPs, and Bag Tags (Bag Tags will be determined on the scratch score).

Another option to acquire your handicap: if a club officer is willing to play those three rounds outside of league night, they will "sign off" that your scores are valid to use to develop your 3 round minimum for getting your "handicap". After you accumulate more rounds, your rating will be taken from your last 5 rounds.

Frank Grimes, Rob Gibson, and Dean Bingham will be running Handicap League. Jason Poole will be handling the PDGA sanctioning and results.
Good job Gibby! Only another month & the summer season starts. In past years handicap has not started with Shorewood, as doubles does. I'm neutral, it's your call.

Shoot The Breeze / Re: My Friend FRANK
« on: February 25, 2013, 05:38:46 PM »
Well, there is more concern about my health issues. I have a small tumor on my brain. It perhaps came from my hormone treatments, but for now it's unknown. I need to meet with a neurosurgeon & we go from there. My Primary care Dr. went to both ends of the spectrum, surgery to nothing. I complained on my cancer visits & thus the MRI & then these results. Further tests will be coming. I'm passing on what my primary care Dr. told me. I'm taking a deep breath & a sigh. Keep chugging the good thoughts & Prayers!!!

Shoot The Breeze / Vietnam Sniper

If you have time you might find this interesting.  Perhaps some have heard in the news about the sniper Chris Kyle, a Navy Seal, with 160 confirmed kills, that was murdered & recently buried. There was a 200 mile trek for his burial.
That brought me to  Carlos Hathcock a Vietnam Marine sniper. It's amazing when you need the barometric pressure to make the shot, of course the wind & distance is computed.

Thank You J-Town crew for another great Ice Bowl.....you guys Rock!
Love to see Frankie so happy!
                                                            :)

Yes, that day was huge!!! I was overwhelmed! I can't say enough about the club & their enthusiasm! That would be Ray Hill, Jason Poole, Dean Bingham, & Dave Kociuba. Dana jumped in with help with the registration, Scott Coyne came with the firewood & got the fire going, Steve Slater with the basket & helped with the sponsor signs, & helped up front, along with many others. A Great statement to the community & disc golf. I need to round up the money, but I think it will be close to $9,000.00. Simply Wonderful!!!
