Not all the reports are in for the Ice Bowl but today we're in 10th place. Dean, Thor, & Frank were there & everything went well. Choosing pictures & giving input for what's going to be published in the Herald News. Terri took us on a tour & I was quite impressed to the depth of their outreach. They screen who they help. They have a standard helping the truly needie. You can't be a drunken jerk who needs a place to sleep with a free meal.If one comes in with that status, they dry out with help from the police & go back to be interviewed. They help whole family's. They train people to be self sufficient. We did a good thing J-Town!!!
I didn't play Channahon for a week or so and was expecting a mess of litter. I only picked a couple of cans. Johnnie B. said he was doing his share of picking up & I'm sure others have also. It's nice to see that! Way to go J-Town!!!
I passed on what Mick suggested. What are we going to do? It doesn't please me to see Channahon abused. Gary cringed when I told him about leagues. You can't get to #12's tee from 11's basket without walking back to #10's tee & walking on the pavement back over the bridge. Look at it this way, it will make Gary Lewis happy that we don't make a bad situation worse. we'll have summer to play West Park.
As some already know there is buzz about concrete tees for Highland. Some of the obvious hurdles are money & labor. I'm helping Darrin & Jessie put a game plan together. Some of the tees will be difficult to get to. With enough people we may do the difficult, not much is impossible, & certaintly not the hard to get tees at Highland, with enough help. Get a hold of Darrin & give your level of experience in concrete. Depending on the game plan we may need strong backs. We could get a concrete pump truck but that's not cheap. Lets see if we can get something going.
So since so many things have changed about the layout, format and whatnot, here are a few more things to be aware of for this weekend:
hole 1) on/ over the tracks hole 2) on/ over the tracks hole 3) over the fence hole 4) over the fence, where the fence ends, the curb is ob line (there are flags from fence line to curb denoting OB line) hole 16) on/ over path temp hole A (if needed) on over path to the right
MANDOS hole 6) must throw to the right of the tree with the yellow ribbon (drop zone to the right of the tree marked by flags) hole 17) must throw to the right of the tree (drop zone to the right of the tree marked by flags)
Hole 6 mando was added due to tree trimming creating a path that goes in a direct line with long tee for hole seven (safety issue)
I wish I could make it but I'm still getting over the last three of months working on the J-Town charity. It's too bad more from FVM couldn't make it to J-Town's Fund Raiser.
Please accept my apologies. Ray, Jason, Dean, & Sara plus your helpers. Y'all did a good job, especially being the first tournament. I know there was time effort put forth before the tournament that wasn't seen. You people were in the spotlight & get applause from me. Thanks!!!
I had so much fun! I am glad that by having fun we could also help out others less fortunate. Thanks Frank, for letting me beat you...just kidding. I really enjoyed our rounds, and look forward to the next one. Congrats to the back-to-back ace-er!
Although I can throw better, you're going to be tough to beat even when I'm throwing well. Thanks for coming out, along with John, Pat & Sam. I know it's a bit of a trip for you all.
With all the work that goes into a tournament it's worthless without players so thanks to you that came out. Not to mention the people who were in the spotlight in today's tournament there are behind the scenes help I want to make mention of. I left my notes at home & I'm not sure if they were mentioned. Mike Kursell (back brace Mike) custom made each sponsor sign. He verified address & made custom signs for sponsor & did that from the posts that were on line . Only with a few did we have to get together on. Shawn Harmon is always ready to rock & roll. He helped with the tees, also with splitting the firewood & brought his fire pit, and too with generous donations from him & his family. Doctor Pepper ( Ryan Barcas) also helped with sponsors & labor. He also helped with splitting the firewood, & frequently asked if I need something. He also brought his firepit. Dave K. made the player flyer's, & he & Tom M. had also kept the tees clean. Gary Lewis putting up capital for Ice Bowl merchandise. Dom got $375.00 in sponsors, Thor pointed him in the right direction. As was announced, the idea for a local Ice Bowl, came from Thor. He along with Randy Moore tutored me to get sponsors, & I might add it was relatively easy for the cause we had. Morning Star is a staple in the Joliet area and that made it easier to get sponsors. Randy is having trouble with his left hand, that's why he hasn't been playing. Give him positive thoughts & prayers. Thanks you all that played!!!
