WEEK 14 - July 1, 2015
Second Half #1
The Canyons, Lockport, IL

TEES
18 Holes - Par 54
White Tees

CONDITIONS
A very cool 65 degrees with 12mph winds with clear skies started the night. It dropped into the 50s by the end of the night with some DAMN RAIN! Good thing everyone was pretty much in. The course is in fantastic shape.

NOTES
• Tom “Tomás” MMM Matesavac & Chris “Crispy” Brenholtz  shoot a fantastic round of 43 (-12) and dominate the Pro/Adv Division.

 • Aaron “Lets Cook” White easily gives the Am/Nov Division an Old Fashion Whipping. Aaron draws the Cali card and takes care of business. He shot a great round of 46 (-8).

• This Sunday July 5 will be a clean up day at Highland Park. Getting ready for IL State. I’ll be there around 8am. Once you awake from the July 4th’s Celebration come out for a while.

• Check out the JTown Eatery on Rte. 30 in Joliet. Take a left out of the park and it’s about a mile or two down the road on the left. They have fantastic food with a huge menu. The best part is that the price is extremely cheap.

• Shout to the Birdie Babes. An all women’s league that plays on Mondays hoisted by Gabrielle Metzger. With a rain out last Monday they had league yesterday. It was great to see over 10 females having fun competing against each other.

• Shout out to Route 30 Liquors on donating J-Town logo shirts for Ctps.

Getting ready for IL State!

Work day on this Sunday July 5.
The rain and the growth is making Highland a complete jungle. Bring your weed eaters, mowers, loppers, pruners, tree pruners or anything else that might work on cutting. Chainsaws for some down trees would also help. We also need garbage removal. We will have to bring some cans out to the curbs so they can take them or fill garbage bags up from the cans and bring them to the curb. The cut out area by Hole 9 is a good spot. I tried cleaning hole 12 but it’s a mess. If you want to help that’s great even if it’s an hour, I’ll be out there by 8:00 am. I’ll be out there a few days this week so I should have a better idea on what’s left to do on Sunday morning. F THE RAIN!
Please pass this along.
Thanks!

We only have 2 weeks left of the first half!

Second Half Schedule
http://jtowndiscgolf.com/files/League/%20'15%202nd%20half%20doubles%20July-Sept.pdf

Pro/Adv
Al Hermosillo has just about wrapped up the first half victory. All he needs to do is show up at one of the next two Wednesdays to be claimed the winner.
We have a huge battle for second through fourth. Hutter, Rachan, Gremillion, Bruemmer, Matesevac, Rodriguez, Brenholtz and Forneris will all be battling for three spots. There are a few others that might jump up into the conversation with a big win this week.

Am/Nov
Eichorst is holding strong with a 3-point lead, but McMillin & Pashos are on his tail. Kolar, Seddon, Cembala, Story, G. Frederick & Post all need a good week to keep in the conversation of the top 4.

Good Luck!

The Oaks, in Mokena Tonight!

Grand Reopening of Knoch Knolls Disc Golf Course Set for June 27
Community Invited to Celebrate New 18-Hole Course

The Naperville Park District invites the community to celebrate the grand reopening of the disc golf course at Knoch Knolls Park, located at 336 Knoch Knolls Road.

The event will take place
Saturday, June 27 at 10:00 a.m.

Following brief remarks by the Naperville Park District board president and others, the course will officially open with a ceremonial first throw. Expert disc golf players will be on hand to demonstrate how to throw a disc and to give other tips for beginners. Guests also will have the opportunity to participate in a series of “Putt for the Pie” contests.

The disc golf course at Knoch Knolls Park originally opened in 2000 as a nine-hole course and concrete tee pads were added in 2006. Naperville resident and disc golf enthusiast Tom Wehrli worked with Disc Golf Hall of Fame player Gary Lewis to design the original course.

Funding for the first course was provided, in part, by donations from local individuals and organizations. With the sport of disc golf growing fast in Illinois and nationally, players flocked to the Knoch Knolls course and soon looked for ways to expand it from 9 to 18 holes. The Naperville Park District was able to include the course expansion in the Knoch Knolls Nature Center project, which was funded, in part, by an Open Space Lands Acquisition and Development (OSLAD) grant from the Illinois Department of Natural Resources.

Design of the overall project began in 2012, and preparation for the disc golf renovation began in 2013 when a herd of goats helped clear five acres of invasive brush for the new holes. Installation of the new tees and baskets continued through the spring of 2015.

Disc golf experts Steve Matul and Doug D’Arcy worked with Project Manager Peggy Pelkonen to design the new course layout. Close to parking, restrooms and the DuPage River Trail, the Knoch Knolls course is conveniently located and offers beautiful views of open fields and woodlands along the West Branch of the DuPage River.

Disc golf is popular with young adults, but as Tom Wehrli observed, the sport also provides an opportunity for families to spend time together outdoors.
“I see parents staying with their kids while they are playing the game and walking the course together,” said Wehrli. “There are a lot of guys who play, but I also see lots of young kids with their parents.”

First Half #11

TEES
24 Holes - Par 72

Am/Nov - Short tees

CONDITIONS
The night started out in the 90s and extremely humid. Half way through the round a Monsoon hit. It cooled things off but destroyed the land.

NOTES

• Second Half Schedule
http://jtowndiscgolf.com/files/League/%20'15%202nd%20half%20doubles%20July-Sept.pdf

• We had no choice but to forfeit the night during the round because too many holes became unplayable

• Within 15 minutes the creek on 2, 3, & 4 became a 30 foot wide raging river. The water was all the way to the top of the bridge for hole 5. From the tee pad to the basket on hole 11 was flooded and flowin. Hole 16 was just downright scary!

• Reports of logs bigger then cars were flowing like they were branches.
“ When we seen that log we knew it was time to get out!”

• I Refunded money to the players that wanted it back and for everyone else they have received a rain check.

• Shout out to the Taco Guy for coming out!
