WEEK 9 - May 30, 2012
First Half #9
Highland Park - Joliet

TEES
18 Holes - Short Tees - Par 54

CONDITIONS
The temperature to start the round was in the low  70s with some wind. The sun was out and it felt great. The temp dropped into the 50s by the end of the round.  A Very cool ending. The course was dry and in pretty good shape.  A perfect night for disc golf

COMMENTS
To our experienced Ams that pair up with a beginner. Your guidance towards these players is a major part of the future success of the league. Please be a mentor to  these new players and make sure when they leave they feel like they had the coolest time and want to come back. Itís great to win but if feels a whole lot better knowing you helped make difference in someoneís game. You just might be helping the next great player in our area.

Highland Park still proves to be the toughest course in the area. When you have an eight down cashing in Pro/Adv and a five down in Am/Nov you know you have something special. It tests everyone's skills to the fullest. What a great course!

The race  for  the top four spots in each division is heating up. With only four weeks left in the first half the gaps for the top spots are closing in and each week  more players are moving into the picture. It should be a great race to the July finish.

The Fourth of July falls on a Wednesday which would be the first week of the second half. League will be canceled that week and resume on July 11. Go and celebrate with your friends and families.

Thanks Tracy for getting the payout ready for the night. This is a huge burden of our shoulders at the end of the night.

Next week is THE OAKS  with registration starting at 4:15 - 4:30 pm.

PLAYERS
64 Players
31  PRO/ADV   33 AM/NOV

TOP THREE
PRO/ADV

Jon Vargo & Dan Osysko take the top honors for the night shooting a fantastic round of 43 (-11) They end splitting 124 bucks. This is a  huge win for Dan O. as he jumps into a tie for fifth for the first half and only two points out of fourth. Heís playing some good golf right now. Tom Matesevac & Nick Austin shoot a very nice round of 44 (-10)  to take the second spot and split 75 bucks. This was a huge second place finish as Tom moves into a  tie for second and only one point out of first. Tomís game is peaking right now and he will definitely make a serious run for the first half title. Tying for third and winning the ctp playoff on hole #10 were Darrin Johnson & Steve Forneris. They end up taking home $25 each. The teams ended up shooting nice rounds of 45 (-9). Fern & DJ add on a much needed extra point to their first half totals as the rest of the field tries to catch them. They stay on top of the first half points chart.

TOP THREE
AM/NOV

Winning out right with a great round of 47 (-7) were Kevin Yockman & Dan Janes. They end up taking home $32.50 each. This is Kevinís second time he has won at Highland this year and by doing so he jumps into first place for the first half. He is now on top of the charts alone by two points. We had a tie for second with the teams shooting very nice rounds of 48 (-6). Kevin Macuiba and Adam Brkovic win the ctp playoff on hole #8 to take the second place victory. They end up splitting 36 bucks. This is a huge win for Kevin as he now jumps into a tie for fourth and in striking distance for the top spot. Jake Broughton & Michael Saenz take the third spot and split 25 bucks. Jake also moves into a tie for fourth for the first half and is breathing down the neck of the top three guys. Mikey is now only four points out of fourth with four weeks left. He has definitely moved himself into position to take one of the top four spots for the first half.

First Half #8
West Park - Joliet

TEES
24 Holes - Short Tees - Par 72

The temperature to start the round was in the low  80s with some wind. The sun was out and it felt great. The temp dropped into the 70s by the end of the round.  The course was pretty much dry.

The first time brothers won their divisions in the same night. Jason Smith & Danny Tejero take the top honors in their divisions for the night.
Also the first time we had aces by partners in the same round. Thor Batchelor on hole 19 & Danny Tejero on hole 7.

It was a deuce or go home kind of night. Just put it this way a -18 didnít cash in Open/Adv division and a -14 didn't cash in the Am/Nov division. What the Hell!

Tracy Kenner is back and getting the payouts ready for the night. This is a huge burden of our shoulders at the end of the night. Thanks Tracy!

Shoot The Breeze / Operation J-Town Storm
« on: May 18, 2012, 07:12:58 AM »
Operation J-Town Storm

Iím going to start collecting goods at the J-Town Disc Golf Doubles League, The IL State Disc Golf Championships & Channahon Classic for the U.S. Army troops in Afghanistan. These care packages will be sent to my son Anthonyís Platoon/Company.  Heís Company was deployed to Afghanistan on April 30, 2012 for 9-months. Although many of our soldiers are being withdrawn from Afghanistan, the U.S. will still have troops there until 2014.
I had a chance to meet about 10 of his buddies or ďBand of BrothersĒ and I have to say the U.S. is in great shape when it comes to whom they are sending overseas to represent our country. At first glance you see a bunch of 18-25 year old kids messing around and having fun. But when you actually get to know them and hear them talk you quickly realize that they are extremely focused and courageous men. They are mentally and physically some of the toughest people I have ever met. Theyíre highly trained infantrymen that are willing to sacrifice their own lives for each other and their country. When we here the words Army Strong we tend to chuckle a bit, but in reality the best words to describe what these guys are all about is ďArmy Strong.Ē
Itís truly spectacular to witness this bond they have for each other and itís humbling to see them grow together as men in the U.S. Army. They are definitely my heroes!

Many of these men including my son will be leaving their wives and children for this 9-month period. So in this difficult time lets show some of our troops we care and appreciate their sacrifice for our country.

Lets show them what the Disc Golf community is all about.

My son Anthony has been playing disc golf almost all his life, so discs and accessories would be great. Heís been trying to get his fellow soldiers hooked on playing and it seems to be working. It would be cool to know some of our discs are flying in the deserts of Afghanistan.

Any amount you can contribute for this cause would be greatly appreciated. It can be as simple as a pack of peanuts. Iíll start collecting this week and I will continue throughout the year. Iíve a huge list of items that they can and canít receive. Please take your time and look through it.
Thanks,
Jesse
The list is below and I also attached a word doc with the list.

WEEK 7 - May 16, 2012
First Half #7
Community Park - Channahon

TEES
18 Holes - Short Tees - Par 54

CONDITIONS
The temperature to start the round was in the mid  60s with strong NE winds. The sun was out and it felt great. The temp dropped to the mid 50s by the end of the round. A very cool ending. The course was pretty much dry.  Although the water level on the water holes were very high and deep. The wind on hole one seemed to be blowing a lot discs into the pond by hole two's tee pads. There were a whole lot of wet guys freezing their butts off. As always Community Park was in fantastic shape.

COMMENTS
Thanks again to Paco Grimes for all his dedication and hard work on the course. To think ten years ago this course used to be so brutally overgrown by the late spring through the end of summer players just didnít want to play it. Now itís an amazing place to play all year round.

White Men Canít Jump! The last couple nights after league a few guys have started a pick-up game of basketball. It doesnít look pretty but it looks  and sounds very competitive. Maybe a new tradition has started.

Tracy Kenner is back and getting the payouts ready for the night. This is a huge burden of our shoulders at the end of the night. Thanks Tracy!
