WEEK 20 - August 17, 2011
Second Half #7 West Park - Joliet, Illinois 24 Holes - Short Tees - Par 72 CONDITIONS At the start the temp was in the Mid 80s & humid. It was sunny all the hole round. At the end the temp dropped to around 79 -80 and the humidity was still high. The mosquitoes were terrible when the sun started to set. The course is completely dry and in great shape. Thanks Tracy Kenner for sorting the money. PLAYERS 60 Players 25 PRO/ADV 40 AM/NOV TOP THREE PRO/ADV Darrin Johnson & Dana Vicich tore up the course shooting an extremely hot round of 51(-21). They end up taking first place out right and splitting $116. This was a huge win for Darrin as he gets a little separation for the second half lead and the overall points total. Also shooting a very hot round were Shawn Harmon & Ryan Gremillion. They end up taking second place with a 52 (-20) and split $67. This was a huge second place victory for Shawn & Ryan because they are both in contention for the second half and overall trophies. We had a tie for third with teams shooting very nice rounds of 53 (-19). Brian Kevish & Kris Hutter win the ctp playoff to win third place and take home $17.50 each. This is also a huge win for Kris & Monk as they keep pace with the rest of the leaders. All the top players seem to be playing their best golf right now and with still six weeks left the mental & physical battles have already begun. It’s going to be a very exciting and bloody finish this year. TOP THREE AM/NOV Shooting a phenomenal round of 54 (-18) were Jake Broughton & Josh Delucio. They end up in first and take home 34 bucks each. This was a huge victory for both of these guys as they are two of the top points leaders in the second half and overall totals. We had a tie for second with teams shooting great rounds of 55(-17). Cory Clements & Chris Simoe end up winning the ctp playoff for the second place finish and split 40 bucks. Cory is also one of the top point leaders and he continues to keep pace with the rest of his competition. Taking the third spot were Colleen Thompson & Todd Paraday. They end up taking home 15 bucks each. Todd the top points leader in both categories keeps taking on points and keeps putting major pressure on the rest of his rivals. Colleen Thompson becomes the first women or one of the first women to cash at our league. Nice Shooting Colleen. The Am/Nov division is shaping up to be an extremely competitive division with a huge number of players in contention. The last six weeks in this division is also going to have an exciting and nasty finish. This has to be one of the top-grade Am /Nov classes in league history. CTPS Steve Forneris CTP Party Fund hole #1 = $42 Joe Heinen CTP Basket Fund hole #7 = $40 Dana Vicich CTP Tournament Fund hole #21 = $42 Randy Moore Sr. IL State GL Destroyer hole #23 Randy Moore Sr. Am Worlds Archon hole #2 ACES Jon Cora Aced Hole #23 = $60 BIG MONEY NIGHT Dana Vicich wins the Pro/Adv division and also grabs the ctp tourney fund. “Steady” Ed Headrick Obituary
June 28, 1924 — August 12, 2002. Steady Ed the Founder of Disc Golf The inventor of the modern-day Frisbee may be gone, but his spirit and his ashes will continue to fly high into the great blue yonder. “Steady” Ed Headrick, died in his sleep early Monday, August 12, 2002, at his home in La Selva Beach. He was 78. No services were planned, but there was an open house and a party to celebrate his life. Headrick, who had high blood pressure, had suffered two strokes while attending the Professional Disc Golf Association 2002 Amateur World Championships in Miami. The strokes left him paralyzed on his left side and weak on the right. Still, he had remained in high spirits even signing autographs on Frisbees from his bed at a Miami hospital. He returned home to California Aug. 6 after doctors determined that physical therapy would not aid his recovery and that his condition would continue to deteriorate. Headrick’s ashes are molded into a limited number of memorial flying discs. A memorial fund has been be created by the family that was used to establish and found “The Ed Headrick Memorial Museum”. “The Ed Headrick Memorial Museum”, is home to the Disc Golf Hall of Fame, and showcases many historical items from the early days of our sport.
