Just a quick note of thanks to the J-Town Disc Golf Club! I was truly taken by surprise by being the recipient of the 2013 Member of the Year award!
I truly appreciate the way it makes you feel when your efforts are recognized. Of course, that's not why I do it, it is just nice when it happens!
I do feel as though you are all my friends and that's why I enjoy disc golf...Here's to 2014 and growing the sport and making new friends and adding to my disc golf family!
With a bunch of our regular Bag Tag players heading to Ottawa for the Pine Hills Ice Bowl tomorrow, how many are planning to be at Bag Tags tomorrow in Channahon?
On Friday, I will be representing disc golf to a group of ball golfers at the Grundy County Chamber of Commerce Golf Outing at Nettle Creek Country Club in Morris. The golfers will have an opportunity to putt at a basket at one of the tee pads while waiting to tee off on a hole. I will be raising money for the Chamber's Scholarship fund for area high school seniors. The golfers will donate $1 per putt, if they make a 40' putt I pay them $5. I'm hoping to raise around $200 toward the scholarship fund!
Oughta be a great way to expose disc golf to those who are not familiar with the game!
The Grundy County Chamber of Commerce is hosting a golf outing at Nettle Creek Country Club in Morris on Friday, June 21st. The chamber reached out to me to incorporate disc golf into one of the holes at the outing.
The only thing I can come up with is to place a basket about 200 yards along the fairway, then once the golfer has passed the basket with the golf ball, have them stop by the basket and sink a 20-25' putt with a disc before they can proceed to finish the ball golf hole. Whaddya think??
First the background: For Christmas, I got a flag pole for my front yard! I have wanted one of these telescopic flag poles for years now.
In addition to flying an American flag, I also have a Cubs flag (sorry Frank!). I also wanted a "disc golf" flag. Didn't really matter what type but I started looking for an Innova flag that would work.
These proved to be very difficult to find. On a whim and after searching since the first of the year, I decided to email the company.
Early afternoon I got a reply from David Shope in customer service telling me that they have a flag that should work nicely. I sent an email back telling him that would be awesome and in addition to my address what would the charge be??
2 hours later he replied saying it was on it's way to me and there would be no charge!
I replied back letting him know I'd send a pic or two of it once I get it in the ground this spring!
I don't throw Innova plastic exclusively, I'll throw anything that works for me! Nonetheless, pretty cool gesture on Innova's part. Just wanted to share that with my disc golf fam!!
I was approached by Candy Cassetto, Executive Director of Illinois Valley Industries in Morris. IVI is a series of programs available to the developmentally challenged youth and adults in our area.
A few years ago, a scout looking to attain his eagle scout status, hand made several disc golf basket as his community service project...so, to make a long story longer...
She saw my truck which has numerous disc golf stickers on it, she asked who was into disc golf...when I told her that I was, she asked if there was a group in the area, and if there was if anyone would be willing to do a "lesson" for her group. She also explained that she would like to get disc golf into the Special Olympics.
So, J-towners, anyone interested?? Thinking maybe Patrick?? I would certainly help with anything and offer assistance in any way possible, just don't think I'd be able to take care of all of it myself (particularly the teaching part!!)
This could be something really cool and could help in the effort to get a course in Morris!!
Found a Pro Boss 175, white, worn off hot stamp, pretty beat with a water stain. Has the name "Bo #35980" on bottom. Hole #18 @ Channy. Also, has phone number will be trying this afternoon!
