I am planning to come to Joliet tomorrow(from Milwaukee) to hit up some courses and am unfamiliar with any of the courses and their current conditions. Are there any courses that are technically "CLOSED"? How many and which ones are flooded? Are there any courses in the area that are in good to decent condition?
Mike, the only course that is technically closed, and still unplayable, is Community Park in Channahon. West Park, I think, still has some holes that are a bit flooded (11, 3, and 5 - not sure if the water has gone down yet), but the remainder of our courses are in good condition. Our friend Thor has a tournament going this Sunday and Trinity Links DGC. If you can't hit the tournament, I recommend hitting Highland (Pilcher Park) or Shorewood Park.
Community Park is still closed & I doubt it will be open soon. The creek that runs through #1 & #2 is flooded #2's basket is under water. The water on the hill on #4 is at the bottom, so that's down a lot. Rain is in the forecast for Tuesday, so we'll wait & watch.
The water is receding nicely. I was able to see the castle blocks on the wall on #2. That tells me the wall withstood the storm, not like last time. I can use a hand Saturday morning, putting the bridge back coming from #12. Probably around 9:00am.
Well, congratulations to the incumbents and our new member advocate! Just wanted to say thank you, J-Town. Thanks for volunteering your time and effort to help make Joliet the best place to be a disc golfer!
Due to Community Park being flooded, bag tags will be at Highland Park tomorrow. Saturday 4-20-2013. We will play Community Park 4-27-2013 if the park is reopened and playable.
To get an idea how high the water is, it breached the banks of the I & M canal, I55 was flooded & closed between I80 & rt.6, water was just below the base on basket #4. Good bye bridge
Holy smokes! I knew it had to be bad...but wow, that's pretty bad! I'll be out to help clean up when it's safe!
yes sir its me! Feel free to post anything related for J-town on the midwest disc golfer page I know a lot of people by me that like playing the courses down that way.
That sounds great I could use some sanctioned play. I messed up and my first tournament I didnt know anything and screwed my rating over bad. What nights are sanctioned?
Sounds great Im gonna come out this saturday for trinity then!
Just so it's clear, Phriendly, Bag Tags is NOT sanctioned - Handicap Singles League is...well, you will have the OPTION for each player to pay a dollar and make their round a PDGA sanctioned round.
Hey guys im from the schaumburg area but I like to play the j-town courses and was curious about your bag tag challenge. Would I be able to get in? and How exactly does it work. Thanks
Phriendly, is that you?
It would be great to have you down - I keep meaning to post in Midwest Disc Golfers FB page about bag tags and handicap singles. Like Frank said, just bring $15 for your club membership to Bag Tags or Handicap Singles and you're ready to go! There are some stipulations for handicap singles, but they are easy to meet - just check on the forum page and it will explain it.
Disc golf event aids MorningStar Mission From staff rEports March 15, 2013 2:56PM

Ninety disc golfers came to play a PDGA-certified event Feb. 9 in Channahon to raise funds for MorningStar Mission Ministries.
The tournament, sponsored by J-Town Disc Golf Club, raised more than $8,000 that will provide more than 3,900 meals and care to those experiencing homelessness. Hall of Famer Gary Lewis joined the event with logo T-shirt and sweatshirts.
J-Town Disc Golf Club was started in the summer of 2009.
The day of the event was brisk with an occasional breeze that made it feel even colder. With the ice on the course it certainly was fitting for an event called the “Ice Bowl.”
PDGA World Champion Frank Grimes was instrumental in starting the partnership with MorningStar Mission for the Ice Bowl. This year the Ice Bowl drew disc golfers as far as Galveston, Texas.
Board members are Ray Hill, Frank Grimes, Jason Poole, Dean Bingham and Dave Kociuba.
I accidentally left 2 mvp discs on hole 21 on sat.
Thanks Mike
Annnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnd that ruined your whole day. Sorry Mike! I hope you get your discs back! If you don't, I'll buy you one of them just because that sucks ass.
