This event is taking place March 16, 2013 at the Oaks in Mokena. Sign-up will be 8:45AM to 9:45AM. Tee-off will be right around 10:00 AM. Due to the nature of this event where there is not preregistration we will be asking team captains to have some rosters together before the event begins. NOTE: This is a one round 27 hole event.
The event last year at Silver Lake in Wisconsin maxed out at 135 players. There were 5 players on all 27 holes. We are hoping for the same at Mokena. With 5 clubs if the player base exceeds 135 players teams will be limited t a roster of 27 players. Scoring will be the same as in past years.
All clubs are welcome to bring their bagtags to sell and promote memberships. We are also asking clubs to bring one or two CTPs. We are asking that the clubs run their own CTPs.
As this is a team event and not a sanctioned event, trashing talking and bragging are highly encouraged. This is the seventh annual event and it has grown over the years, as has the number of disc golfers in Northern Illinois.
This will be the year! J-Town shall be victorious!

J-Town Disc Golf Club is looking for club members to commit to this event. Format will be 1 rounds of singles. Members will be divided into 2 division with a 935 rating break point. I hope to get out sometime this week. I'll relay conditions if I do.
I haven't been there in years, but I do recall thinking the place should've been closed for the Spring thaw. I especially remember sinking every step about 3" on the green of #5. Shouldn't be that bad, but if the forecast holds it should be a slop-fest.
They don't close the course for the winter any more. I'm gonna be out there probably Tuesday (I live about 5 minutes away).
I would like to get in on this if there is still room. Waiting on PDGA to update that I have renewed to get my rating, but I know it would be the under.

Absolutely UNPLAYABLE. Where it's not frozen I was sinking in 2" and sliding around. NO CARTS. On the way out I stopped at the retention pond and cleaned off my boots and pants. Saturday will be a day of attrition.

Get ready.
It will not dry. Years of MTBing have taught me what to expect. It would need to be 90 and all sun from now till the event to dry that place out, and that might not even do it. What is now frozen might melt and get as soft as the rest. Cleats wouldn't even help. Pretty much stand and deliver anywhere but the pads. My solo round took 3 1/2 hours. IO'm ditching my cart and bringing a walking staff. Some of those trails are treacherous. I'll get a pic up as soon as my phone recharges.
I have the hardest time trying to post pics from my Flick'r account. Here is a link to my account. The newest pic is from practice today with a full description. Enjoy.

I just spoke to Tom Mcmanus and we will be meeting and organizing over by the ball fields. (over by the woodsy holes 19-21) Just concerned with parking spaces for all.. So please park over by the original park district building/ past the sand volleyball/ concession stand/ football field not near the "new" rec building.. please tell a friend so we are all on the same page..
thanks!
I probably seemed somewhat harsh in my assessment of the course conditions. I just wanted to tell it how it is, so no one is surprised. If you didn't catch my second sentiment, this is it... Saturday is going to be messy. SO WHAT! I'm really looking forward to playing with some people I may not normally run into in a non-money centered, fun environment. Thanks to Mr. McManus for organizing this. As kids we used to love playing in the mud. Embrace your inner child and let's have some fun!

@Tafe-- I for one didn't take you the wrong way at all laffy taffy.. looking forward to seeing you saturday!!
thanks for the updates!
Just got home from the oaks. Only played like 12 holes but... Tafe isn't exaggerating. Saturday is going to be crazy!

has there been any talk of doing an event wide ace pot or ctps? or anything within just the club?
$1 ace and two $2 ctps? or something like that?

Clubs should bring a ctp or two to throw in for free. Fox Valley is bringing one or two really nice ctps with discs etc...

the board voted to include 2 CTPs for all at the challenge..
as far as an ace pool goes I always loved the way it's handled up at Sandy Point.. Honors system $1.. after the round announcements are made as to who aced and the players seek out the player to pay up.. simple, effective, and makes for good karma.. you get a chance to say congrats in person, shake a hand, and make a new friend in the process.. if someone is not inclined to pay up chances are they would not have opt'd into an ace pool anyways.. (well that point could be argued but who wants bad karma for any aces going forward, pay up!! :) )
thoughts??...
Ray -
That is pretty cool! That's how you'd do it in a casual round with friends...That sounds like a great way to handle it, particularly with an event that encompasses other clubs...
I never get in the Ace pool, so if I hit it, you all can take your dollar and buy yourself a Speedy Freeze down the street.
I have space on the leaderboard cards to track who's in the Ace pot if we want to do it the way we have in past years. Tom will make the call on how he wants to run it. I just need to know before players start checking in.
I like the honor system idea. No forced throw-off if it doesn't get hit either.
When I was in FL I saw the coolest thing and I guess they do it at most tourneys down there. Mokena's rules probably wouldn't allow it, but... Someone at the Throw Down the Mountain event hit an ace for over $500. He got the money and went and bought 3 cases of beer (Bud, Miller and Miller Lite). He then put the beers down by tourney central and gave out "Ace beers" to whoever wanted them! Giving the karma back.
@mike- doh! I wasn't sure on years past.. not trying to break tradition at all .. just thought there would not be one so I replied with my .02 ;D I am down for whatever and looking forward to sat!
thanks for all the work!
Ray- I appreciate the input and ideas. They do have merit. We have run an ace pool for this event, but I don't remember what the buy-in was. Like I said, I never get in.
If no one hits an ace, having 100+ people throwing off will take a while. But it does give me a chance to make sure I have all of the results put together.
We are going to have a very full house, I will try to be ready for checkin early to help things run smoothly. Come checkin first before you head out to warmup so we can get started on time.
Tom's good with the honor system for the ace pool. Let it be so.
Add the following upper players to J town
Dana Vicich. 26228. 1004
Tom Matesevac. 23272. 964
Al H. 25345. 984
A couple final items to update everyone on the event this Saturday: We will be meeting at the baseball field side of the park. You must be a current member of a club to play. Each club is responsible for their own CTPs. We are hoping for a minimum of two per club. We will need one representative from each club at the scorer's table to help out with entries. We will not be collecting an ace pool; we are having an honor system ace, if someone hits an ace please pay them $1.00. Each club is responsible for running their own tags. Ray Hill will be explaining course rules. Thanks to J-Town for hosting this event. Thanks to all who plan to attend.
Jake broughton 49317 924
kevin hoffmann
eric neumann will be coming on sat.
So if my math is right we are over thirty members so far. I assume then that we are just doing a first come for the sign ups.
Upper J town player to be added...
Nick Austin 34882
WOW JTown thanks a million for all who have committed to play this event!!
We are going to do our best to accommodate everyone who shows up to play. PLEASE PUT A BASKET IN YOUR TRUNK IN CASE WE NEED TO ADD TEMP HOLES.. Spoke to Tom McManus a minute ago and he is planning the scorecards to handle 30 holes. That's 150 guys possible.. Some clubs are lighter then others so there should be room.. The main idea behind the event is to introduce new players to the different area clubs and a tournament experience for those who attend. Please keep in mind this may be the first time for a lot of players in attendance so bring loads of patience and great attitudes..this will be a mad house in the AM so please be organized and ready to check in early..
Jason Poole is going to work his magic and add some temps (nothing fancy just routing that makes sense) for example: We are going to have Plan B 30 holes.. Plan C 32 holes Plan D 36 holes etc etc...
BUT WE NEED BASKETS PLEASE the logistics of pulling this off is rough so please help out if you can.. (running out baskets and tees, etc etc the little things)
This is totally 100% DISContinuum's show, this is their event.. but at the same time I feel like JTown is the home team here so I am requesting that we provide the extra baskets.. we have the least amount of travel involved is all.. ;D We have the club supplies for signs (Dave K can draw quickly :P) extra cards, flags for tees, etc etc... We will make this as seamless as possible to accommodate..
Thanks in advance for all the patience and looking forward to a great day of golf and friends!! THANKS AGAIN for the overwhelming replies and support!!
any questions please ask...
did I mention.... PLEASE BRING EXTRA BASKETS ;D
Ray -
I'm not able to play tomorrow, however I do have two baskets that I'm giving to Gibby to bring with him in the morning and he has one!
I will be coming up after work to cheer the J-town crew on!!
And do whatever I can to help out!
Kev
Thanks Ray for the quick response.
thanks kev will be a HUGE help.. see you tomorrow!!
no worries JD glad you can make it!!
Who has 3 baskets stuffed into his Mini Cooper? THIS GUY! ;D
Very awesome!!
Is it first come first serve tomorrow morning for sign up or does signing up here guarantee a spot if we wanna play?
We seem to be having a fantastic turnout for JTown...what that means, unfortunately, is that yes indeed, it is going to be first come first serve. However, nothing is set in stone and there may be some clubs that need a couple of players and it would not hurt ANYONE'S feelings (as a matter of fact, it would gain some sweet kudos) if we had JTown players that helped out some other clubs if they needed a couple of players to round out their roster.
Congrats to J-Town. It was a pleasure playing today with Dave K and Randy. It was great that Frank walked most of the round with us.
So Jtown won? I had to leave before it started because my wife's grandfather passed this morning. I got the call at like 9:45. Not happy i didn't get to play. What time did you guys get done?
