I have been asked if there is any interest in sanctioning Saturday tags.  For the people that check in here, can you please respond with your feelings on this?

what would be the needed cost to implement this (aside from the ace and ctp money)?

I think it would be a great idea. I love tournaments, but my rating doesn't :-X

$1 a week

I would very much pay for this at $1 a week

You know I am for it...even though I suck, I would like to have more chances to improve my rating.

For me, I think just competing for the lowest number tag is enough.  We are fortunate to have a variety of opportunities in the J-Town area for competition.  Many of them do include a chance to improve one's rating.

I personally enjoy the laid back atmosphere the bag tag league provides.  I don't feel as though every league/tourney or chance to play has to be at such a competitive level.

While I enjoy competition and plan my disc golf schedule with the competition in mind, I often don't have the opportunity to play a "casual" round...The bag tags provide that casual round for me.

I am not in favor of bag tags being a handicap league but in fairness I will say that if the $1 is an option and I can still participate in tags without being in the rating of the league, I would continue to play on Saturday mornings.  If it was mandatory, I would probably discontinue playing in the bag tag league as I already play in the Tuesday night Handicap league.

I would be in favor of the sanctioning with two stipulations...

1. You have the choice to opt out of the sanctioning for any given week.  Some weeks or at some courses, weather etc I may not feel like having a round rated, but I would like to play for tags.

2.  There is a minimal amount of paperwork/time involved for Aaron.  I am more than willing to help out with the load if there is any, but if it becomes a chore than it may not be worth the trouble.

or about how long it would take to get squared away with the PDGA to get the sanctioning started

Saturday tags will remain on Saturday.  I have a schedule ready for spring.  Tuesday night handicap also plays for tags.

I had forgotten that Tuesday nights play for tags as well, therefore, that just reinforces in my mind that Saturday tags should remain NOT handicapped.

Tuesday is a handicap league.  There wasn't anything said about Saturday being a handicap, just sanctioned.  I imagine you'll have the option for sanctioning.  You are given the option on Tuesday's. I do not have preference.  Not a big deal to me.

Don't be intimidated or confused by the handicap league.  Bag tags are sorted with your scratch score (your true score without a handicap).  The sanctioned rounds are, also, submitted with your scratch score.  The payouts are determined by your handicap score.  The league is available for players that want to get the experience of singles play, as you would in a tournament.  The handicap is similar to a bowling league.  This allows more people to compete against each other without worrying about not having enough in your division.  I believe it makes you a better player.  Some think that it is not fair, but if you play frequently, it all evens-out in the end.  Handicap system is designed to keep it fair.  If people want to sandbag, then they are just giving their money away, and good luck making it beneficial for the entire season.

Great explanation! It definitely all evens out and it is very worth it. My rating might not reflect it, but I learned a lot about the sport that it probably would have taken years to learn otherwise.

I would love to have the Saturday round sanctioned.
